Butler lectures
on Arts funding
Tyrone J. Butler, founder and
executive director of the Augusta
Mini Theatre, Inc., spoke on
KWedfesday, September 8, 1999,
at h]ago a.m.,at the LucyC. Laney
M&¥eud of Black History’s
mfithly luncheon. His topic for
v discussion was, “Funding for the
! Arts.”
{ Butler opened with the presen
; tation of “Steps to Getting and
i Keeping a Job,” a workshop in
} which he wrote to educate and
} inspire persons seeking employ
| ment. After the video, Butler be
! gan his speech with a brief back
! ground on his life, as well as a
; brief history of the Augusta Mini
Theatre. He then focused on how
g funding for the arts can be very
difficult at times. Butler stressed,
‘ however, that you must continue
{ tobe strong and tenacious in your
! endeavorsandin the end, youwill
be successful. The speech con
cluded with a question and an
swer session.
Butler’s oration was not only
very powerful, butit wasalsovery
imotivating for those launching
out into the arts.
