in new education show

The Center for Puppetry
Arts’ 1999-2000 Family Series
continues with “The Plant
Doctors,” by associate artistic
director Jon Ludwig, which
will be presented January 6 -
March 18, 2000. This perfor
mance is sponsored in part by
the Coca-Cola Bottling Com
pany, Atlanta Journal-Constt
tution and Peach 94.9.
Welcome to General Botani
cal Hospital, a seemingly nor
mal botanical conservatory
that's about to become a hot
bed of intrigue. Join Doctor
Green Onion and Doctor Spud
(a new potato), along with a
fascinating cast of singing and
dancing vegetation, as they
uproot themselves in an effort
to save plant lives and foil Dr.
Deadly Nightshade's diaboli
cal plan to close the hospital
Along the way, learn about
ecology, anatomy, history and
other unusual aspects of an
ordinary plant’s life
“The Plant Doctors” is writ
ten and directed by Jon Ludwig
and told using a vanety of
puppetry styles including
hand and rod puppets, body
puppets, rod puppets and
shadow puppets. Puppetsand
set were designed by Elaine
Williams, who also designed
the puppets and sets for the
upcoming Family Series pro
duction of “Beauty and the
Beast” (opening Apnil 2000)
Composer John Cerrata wrote
the musical score that includes
10 oniginal songs
An accomplished performer,
director and theater designer,
Jon Ludwig has served as the
associate artistic director at
the Center for Puppetry Arts
for 20 years. His family pro
duction “The Body Detective”
was a highlight of Atlanta's
1997-98 theater season accord
ing to Dan Hulbert, theater
critic for the Atlanta Journal-
Constitution. Since he has
been at the Center, Ludwig
has written and directed 10
distinctive shows for the
Center's Family Series that
educate and appeal to both
children and adults.

Dates, prices and show times
are subject to change.
Admission is $8 for adults
and $7 for children ages 2-13,
students and senior citizens
Admission for members is
$6.25 for adults and $5.25 for
children. Group rates are
available. Full price admis
sion to performances includes
admission to the Center's
Museum.

Rod Puppet in a Create-A-Pup
pet Workshop for children ages
five and up. The workshop fee

on the same day. Workshops
are Monday - Fndayat 10a.m
and 11:30 am. and Saturday

Offered every Saturday at 3
p.m. and throughout the year

30 people. Tickets are $7 for
adults, $6 for children and
$3.50 for members. When
purchased with another event,
tickets are $3 for non-mem
bers and $2 for members and
subscribers.
