BThe Sister Austin Choir of the Tabernacle Baptist Church,
1223 Laney-Walker Blvd. of Augusta, will hold a Reunion Gospel
Concert on Sat., June 10, at 6 p.m. The choir, under the direction of
Lillian Holman Clayton, will perform a varied program of spirituals,
gospels, hymns and contemporary gospels. Pianist Robert Abraham
will accompany the choir and Ann Nealous Johnson and Edward M.
Mclntyre will serve asemcees. The concert is free. A love offering will
be taken and a scholarship will be given to Paine College to support
the Ann Nealous Johnson Endowed Scholarship which was estab
lished by Jessye Norman.

Christian Unity Council is spon
soring an interracial and interde
nominational Pentecost Prayer
and Praise Service on Sunday,
June 11, 2000, at 7 p.m. at Paine
College. The speaker will be
Bishop McKinley Young, chief
ecumenical officer of the African
Methodist Episcopal Church
(AME)
Bishop Young is noted for his
interestin ecumenical affairs and
his unselfish work for the cause of
Christian unity. This can be seen
ashe serves as the chief ecumeni
cal and urban affairs officer of the
AM.E. Itisfurtherdemonstrated
as he serves as chairperson of the
Commission on Missions of the
AM.E. Church, president of the
Commission on Pan-Methodist
Cooperation, vice president of the
Consultation on Church Union,
and president of the Georgia
Christian Council.
Anative of Atlanta, heremained
in this city while earning a degree
from Morris Brown College. He
continued his studies at Newton
Theologican School in Newton,
Mass., and at the University of
Chicago Divinity School. Hisalma
mater, Morris Brown, conferred
on him the honorary degree of
Doctor of Humane Letters.
In 1992, Bishop Young was
elected bishop of the A.M.E.
Church and was assigned to the
15% Episcopal District which in
cludes the southern part of the
Republic of South Africa, Nambia,
and Angola. Prior to becoming a
bishop, he served as pastor of
churches in Georgia, Rhode Is
land and Illinois.
Nationally he serves with honor
and distinction as a member of
the executive committees of the
World Council of Churches, Na
tional Council of Churches, USA
and Consultation on Church
Union. In Atlanta, Bishop Young
The Augusta Focus has won a 1999 ADDY and a 1999 Citation of
Excellence at the local American Advertising Awards banquet.
