ASU'’s Professor’Maurer publishes first book
Augusta State University pro
fessor Marsha Maurer hasreleased
her first book. In the Garden: A
Collection of Prayers for Everyday
is aninspiring collection of prayers
drawn with rich gardeningthemes.
Published by Barbour Publishing,
Iner, the devotional prayers are
complimented by scripture verses
and full-color photographs illus
trating the beauty and serenity of
the garden world.
Professor Maurer notesthat “the

universal appeal and an eternal

The CutnoDance Centre will
present its annual show “Stars of
the Stage” on Saturday, June 17,
at 4 p.m. at the Grover C. Maxwell
Performing Arts Theatre on the
campus of Augusta State Univer
sity. The show will present all
dance forms to include modern,
CutnoDance hosts African
drum and dance workshops
Two master drummers from
New Orleans, La., Donald
“Imhotep” McKinsey and Craig
Campbell, will conduct a two-day
workshop on Wednesday and
Thursday, June 14 and 15, from 1
to 3 p.m. both days. The work
shop will cover basic fundamen
tals of African drumming, tradi
tional West African rhythms and
the drummer and dancer.
In conjunction with the drum
workshop, Stephanie McKee,
founder of Moving Stories, Inc.
and instructor at CutnoDance
Centre, will be conducting the
dance portion of the workshop.

Collective. All ages and levels are

The Augusta Museum of His
tory, 560 Reynolds St., hosts a
special exhibition, “The 1900 s:
Threshold to the New Millen
nium,” in the Mezzanine Gallery
through Oct. 31. Permanent ex
hibits include “Augusta’s Story,”
the museum’s award-winning ex
hibit of 12,000 years of local his
tory ranging from the early Indi
ans to Susan Still’s 1997 space
shuttle missions.

History Camp 2000. This five-day

Appleby Library opens in
time for evening music series
Construction crews and library
staff have worked diligently in
order tohave the Annie de Prairie
Appleby Branch Library ready for
opening on Monday, June 5. The
library was expected to reopen to
the public on May 22 but con
struction crews encountered set
backs and the reopening was de
layed. As a result, the grand re
opening celebration hasbeen post
poned until further notice.
Appleby was the second {ibrary
to undergo renovations thanks to
the Special Purpose Local Options
Sales Tax and a grant from the
Appleby Family Trust.
Great care was taken in pre
serving the former antebellum
home while updating its wiring
Nike Peach Jam comes to
Augusta for fifth summer
The Greater Augusta Sports
Councilis proud to announce that
the Nike Peach Jam will be com
ing to the Augusta area for the
fifth summer.
The Peach Jam is a weeklong
tournament of All-Star basket
ball teams from across the coun
trythathasbeenheldin the North
Augusta Riverview Park Gymna
sium facilities. The dates for this
year’s event begin with the kick
off press conference on Friday,
July 14, at the Radisson
Riverfront Hotel. A play-in tour
nament including local teams
competes for four coveted slots in
the Peach Jam Saturday and Sun
day. Monday through Thursday,
Augusta Striders hosts Sports Festival
The East District Sports Festival Georgia Games 5K Run will be
held on the Riverwalk (starting point 9* Street and levy) on
Saturday,June 17,2000. The 5K Run, 2 Mile Walk, 1 Mile Fun Run,
Y% Mile Kids Run and 100 Yard Tot Trot will be the scheduled races..
