- @ Free Thanksgiving Day Dinner will be held at BL’s Restau
rant, 1117 Laney-Walker Blvd. on Nov. 23, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Please donate toys for abused and neglected children during this

@ Burns Memorial Methodist Church, 2372 Lumpkin Rd., will
be the host of a free Thanksgiving dinner 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Several
churches from the South Augusta area, sponsored by the 30906
Pastor’s Group, have joined together to sponsor the dinner for
residents of South Augusta who don’t have family to celebrate with or
the means to have a holiday meal. Those who are traveling and
passing through Augusta or who would otherwise eat along this
Thanksgiving are welcome to join the meal. Anyone living in the
30906 area who is in need of transportation to the dinner is welcome
tocall 798-1454 for aride. Sponsoring churches are: Hillcrest Baptist
Church, Burns Memorial Methodist Church, Ascension Lutheran
Church, Belle Terrace Presbyterian Church, Alleluia Community
Church and St. Alban’s Episcopal Church.
@ The Augusta Rescue Mission, 526 Walker St. of Augusta, will
host a free Thanksgiving dinner from 11:30 - 2 p.m. For more info, call

8 The Christ Episcopal Church, 1900 Greene St. on the corner
of Eve and Greene Streets, near Crawford Ave. of Augusta, will host
asoup kitchen for the needy and homeless every Sat., from 11:30 a.m.
to 1 p.m. Thanksgiving services will be held at 10 a.m. For more info,

® New Hope Community Center, 1336 Conklin Ave. of Augusta,
will host free martial arts/self defense classes twice a week. Classes
will last the school year until June 2001 for children (five years
minimum) and adults. Friday classes willbe held from sto 6 p.m. The
center holds an after school program for Mon. - Fri., 3 to 6 p.m. The
program includes assistance with homework, tutoring in various
subjects, computer literacy, mentoring programs, health seminars
and crime prevention classes. Every Friday is recreation day. It will
include movies, games, parties and field trips. The Center has re
opened its Computer Literacy Program. For more info, or to register

8 St. Joseph Catholic Church, 2607 Lumpkin Rd. of Augusta,
will host a Shepeard Community Blood Center blood drive on Sun.,
Nov. 26, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Please bring donor card or ID.

hold its Women'’s Day. Program on Sun., Nov. 26, at 10 a.m. Speaker

Reynolds Sts. of Augusta, will hold a Men’s Day worship on Sun., Nov.
26, at 11:15 a.m. Speaker will be the Honorable Benjamin Allen,
Representative of Georgia House District 117. The theme of the
program will be “Leadership in the New Millennium.” Rev. E.T.

27 years as an ordained Baptist Minister and 16 years
as Army Chaplain.
wEducational Background:
Chaplain Ellis graduated cum laude with a degree in Psychology
from Park College in Parksville, Mo. in 1982. In 1985, he obtained
a Master of Divinity degree at Midwestern Baptist Theological
Seminary in Kansas City, Mo. In 1996, he graduated from the
Command General Staff College in Leavenworth, Kan.
®Components of Ministry:
Besides being the pastor and army chaplain, Chaplain Ellis is
developing programs for the following: training for Christian
leadership, discipleship programs for the membership in a plural
istic setting, evangelism programs through small group ministry
and ongoing intercultural Christian couples group for ministry to
interfaith, interethnic and interracial married couples. Chaplain
Ellis’ activities outside the Chapel ministry consists of feeding the
homeless at the Salvation Army, visitation to the nursinghomesin
the Augusta area, men’s prison ministry in Augusta and providing
anmcial assistance t6'flood victims in North Carolina.
i’Ministerial Goals:
Todevelop and implement a program of discipleship training for the
military setting. To train Chapel members for positions of Chris
tian leadership. To provide a collective protestant worship experi
ence for military families. To involve the Chapel in community
outreach projects and enhance the spiritual life of each member of
the Chapel.
