Kmart helps you |
prepare for Thanksgiving
There’s a chill in the air mean
ing fall has arrived and the holi
day most associated with the sea
son is Thanksgiving. Yes, it is
time once again to gather and
celebrate Thanksgiving and
Kmart is fully stocked with every
thing you need to make this holi
day tradition a special one.
For many African Americans,
the Thanksgiving meal is a very
special holiday. Everyone has
waited with anticipation to smell
the familiar aromas of turkey and
stuffing, candied yams, homemade
buttery biscuits and peach cob
bler. Beyond the hoopla—all-day
football, hit holiday movies and
shopping— Thanksgivingis about
families and giving thanks. Fami
lies from near and far join to
gether at the dinner table, facing
life and growing in strength and
love.
The 1997 autobiographical film
Soul Food, was about the impor
tance of family and the massive
Sunday afternoon dinners pre
pared and served by Big Mama
and the Joseph girls. It is with
similar values that the majority of
African Americans have grown
up.

Dinneris prepared using old fam
ily recipes. Vintage silverware,
plates, linen and other tableware
from the family treasure chest
grace the dinner table. Ifit’sbeen
a while since members of your
extended family have visited,
Thanksgiving is a good time to
pull out these special items.
They’re the perfect anecdote for
mealtime conversation, conjuring
up good times from the past and
present.
From centerpieces to cranberry
sauce; string beans to stuffing;
your local Kmart is your place for
one-stop Thanksgiving shopping.
Putting together a feast of this
magnitudeis no picnic, but witha
little advance planning and alot of
help from Kmart, it can be easier
than you think. Here are a few
tips to make planning stress-free
and fun!
® Make alist and check it twice.
Two and three trips to the store
can be nerve-racking.
® Keep it simple. Enjoy the
quality of the food, not the quan
tity. Prepare all-time favorites
such as macaroni and cheese, can
died yams and stuffing and maybe
one or two “new” items.
