well on Regents’ test

2000 Regents’ Test on the first
attempt. The test, which mea
sures proficiency in reading and
writing skills, is given to every
student enrolled in a Georgia pub
lic college or university and pass
ing it is a requirement for gradu
ation. Of 34 institutions, ASU’s
passing rate of 74 percent was
higher than 26 other system

tracting. It’s her
responsibility tohandle the calen
dar, personal actions, travel or
ders and vouchers, time cards,
and correspondence. Mrs. Hill also
acts as the training coordinator
and activity program coordinator
ofthe Defense Department travel
charge cards. A native of
Warrenton, Georgia, Mrs. Hill
came to work on Fort Gordon 17
years ago when she was looking
for federal employment. She had
already worked for the govern
ment 12 years with the Farmers
Homes Administration and Vet
erans Affairs, and said “It made
sense to continue, especially since
the federal government was, and
still is, the best employer.” Mrs.
Hill commented that the three
things she likes most about her
self are that she is a Christian,
she cares about other people and
she is comfortable with her own
company. When she isn’t at work,
she likes to ride her bike, go
kayaking, garden and paint. She
is married to James Hill, and has
three children: Peppi Jones, 37,
Suzi Adkins, 31 and Paul Coleman,
28. Mrs Hill said she considers
raising her children to be good

of established local holiday tradition

Opera at St. Paul’s” is an estab
lished Augusta holiday tradition.
This holiday concert will be per
formed Sunday, December 3,2000,
at St. Paul’s Church on Reynolds
Street. Performances will be held
at 3:30 and 6 p.m. This year, the
concert will feature five interna
tional soloists, the nationally rec
ognized Augusta Children’s Cho
rale, the Augusta Opera Chorus
and Orchestra, and special guest
University of Georgia Brass En

Miller of North Brunswick, New
Jersey. She has spent the last 22

with the Christmas House, Project
Linus, as an Army Family Team
Buildinginstructor, room mother,
storyteller, Girl Scout Leader,
Cub Scout Leader, Sunday School
teacher and with various other
services at church. Mrs. Miller
said she considers herself a com
passionate and generous person
who tries to live her life to the
glory and honor of God. When
she’s not busy volunteering, Mrs.
Miller said she likes to quilt, read,
garden and bake. She considers
helping to raise her sons Mat
thew, whois 15 and Daniel, whois
11 and a half, to become respon
sible citizens her greatest accom
plishment.

Hood, Texas, with Company D,
13th Signal Battalion. He also
spent timein Bosnia-Herzegovina.
When asked to describe himself,
Sergeant Smith responded with
saying he is a very serious person
who enjoys sharing his experi
ences and knowledge and who
alwaystries to be a subject matter
expert. When he does take abreak
from being an instructor, he said
he can befound buildinghouses or
cars,drawingor playing sometype
of sport. SSG Smith is married to
Lacheryl, and they have one son,
