Thanks to innovative medicines,
this summer he will fight for first place.
Chuck Brown is kidney transplant survivor. For years he suffered with severe hypertension and kidney
damage that began with a blocked urinary tract at birth. Eventually he went on dialysis, became extremely ill
and was unable to continue working. Twelve years ago, he underwent a successful kidney transplant,
and, thanks to innovative medications, is working again at the National Kidney Foundation of Georgia.
And this summer he will compete in the U.S. Transplant Games in Orlando, Florida.
The ten leading killers of African Americans are expected to claim more than
a quarter of a million lives next year. Although this is a staggering number, there are currently
156 new medicines in development targeting diseases that disproportionately affect African Americans.
Chuck Brown was given new promise thanks to advances in treatments. Today he is working to ensure
that African Americans and all Americans have the same opportunity, .
