Mayor promotes
earned income tax
credit for Augustans
AUGUSTA
Mayor Bob Young wants
to remind Augusta’s work
ing families about a benefit
from the IRS that can put
cash in their pockets.
The mayor says: “It is im
portant that people know
about the Earned Income
Tax Credit. It’s available to
those who typically are low
wage earners and families
where income is less than
$30,000 a year.”
Mayor Young equated the
benefit to winning the lot
tery. Theaverage check from
the government is about
$1,400.
Not only dotaxpayersben
efit, but so does the commu
nity. For example, if 2,000
additional Augustans claim
the Earned Income Tax
Credit, the local economy
would receive a $3.4 million
dollar benefit.
Mayor Young encourages
employers to make their
workers aware of this im
portant program. And, he
urges employees to ask their
human resources depart
ments about the tax credit.
Literatureon theprogram
is available free from the
Mayor’s Office, suite 806,
