Black college crowd
headed to Daytona for
Black College Reunion
DAYTONA BEACH, FL
Black College Reunion will be held in
the Daytona Beach area on March 30,
through April Ist 2001. The reunion is
widely considered one of the premier
events for students and alumni of His
torically Black Colleges and Universi
ties.
The primary message of BCR, is to
instill a sense of camaraderie between
studentsofall HBCU’s, as well as alumni,
family, and Daytona Beach residents.
Event coordinators are building on last
year’s efforts to provide organized activi
ties to reflect the event’s college roots.
The original BCR started in 1984, as a
reunion in Daytona Beach between co
eds from Bethune-Cookman College and
Florida A&M to celebrate their football
rivalry.
This year, a formal function celebrat
ingthevision andachievement of HBCU’s
will precede the weekend’s events. The
BCR 21st Century Excellence President’s
Gala will be held Thursday, March 29th
at the Adam’s Mark Hotel. HBCU presi
dents, celebrities, student government
presidents, alumni association leaders,
and corporate sponsors will attend the

brings out the stars
Oscar Night America will be held Sun
day, March 25, 7:30 p.m. located at the
Radisson Riverfront Hotel. The event is
less than 4 weeks away and the Greater
Augusta Arts Council is excited to
announce...The star of the show for
Augusta’s Oscar Night America Gala,
will be Thomas Gibson, a.k.a. Greg on
the hit ABC show “Dharma & Greg.”
Joel Murray, a.k.a. Pete on the show will
alsobeattending. Bo Dietl frequent guest
on Imus in the morning will be in atten
dance.
Oscar Night America is produced by
the Greater Augusta Arts Council. The
Academy Awards are broadcast live, and
guests may arrive by limousine and
greeted by adoring fans, participate in a

address from Dr. Benjamin Carson. Dr.
Carson is the Director of Pediatric Neuro
surgery at John Hopkins Hospital, and is
ahighlyregarded professor of pediatrics,
oncology, and plastic surgery.
Inaddition to BCR’sbeach fun, attend
ees will enjoy water-sport attractions,
and collegiate competitions, which in
clude a step show and a car show. There
will also be a street festival which will be
held on Mary McLeod Bethune Boule
vard the entire weekend. Other sched
uled events include a free BCR Music
Fest at the oceanfront band-shell, which
will showcase featured artists,anda BCR
Fashion Show which will take place at
the Adam’s Mark Hotel beach patio. All
of these events promise for a well-at
tended, positive celebration for HBCU’s
and the entire Daytona Beach commu
nity.
