Paine College honors
four local alumni

Paine College’s Chapel pro
gram was dedicated to four
local alumni: Mrs. Betty
Tutt, Class of 1966, Mrs.
Ruth Crawford, Classof 1939,
and Mr. and Mrs. Welcome
Mason, Class of 1950.
Paine’s President, Dr.
Shirley A.R. Lewis, in
formed the student body of
the College’s leadership
legacy and then presented
four alumni to share their
success stories with the
Paine College family.
Each alumnus then spoke
to the students about the
significant role that Paine
College played in their ulti
mate success. Mrs. Tutt
reminded the studentsofthe
need to remain focused and
to take advantage of oppor
tunities. Mrs. Crawford
spoke of the obligation of
graduates to give back to
Paine College crowns King and Queen

2002, Kelley Wheeler and
DeMarlo West, will be held on
October 25, 2001, at 7 p.m. in
the Gilbert-Lambuth Memo
rial Chapel: Coronation 2001,
“A Masquerade of Roses,” will
feature some of the brightest
students from Paine College.
Kelley Nicole Wheeler re
cently participated in the Na
tional Black College Alumni
Hall of Fame Pageant in At
lanta, Georgia, whereshe had
the opportunity to represent
Paine College as its official
ambassadorandinteract with
campus queens from Histori
cally Black Colleges from
throughout the United States.
In addition to her responsi
bilities as Miss Paine College,
the ambassador will be fea
tured in Ebony magazine in
April 2002.

been rescheduled for 5:00-8:30
p.m. Monday, October 22, at
the Radisson Riverfront Ho
tel, Augusta, GA. Admission
is free, and the event is open
to the public.
College Night provides a
way for CSRA students and
parents to:
* Obtain information on
educational opportunities, ad
mission requirements and tu
ition;
* Speak with representa
tives from various professional
societies.
* Attend seminars to get
information about HOPE and
LIFE scholarships and finan
cial aid.
High school students will
have an opportunity to meet
recruiters from more than 100
colleges and universities and
win $13,000 in scholarships
funded by local businesses and
technical societies.
