Augusta to host symbolic Americans United Flag Across America run
Mayor Bob Young an
nounced today that the Ameri
cans United Flag Across
Americarunwill passthrough
Augusta, Friday, October 19,
2001 around 12:00 p.m. The
flag will arrive from South
Carolina on U.S. Highway 1,
then travel along the
Riverwalk to the Jessye
Norman Amphitheater for a
welcoming ceremony. The flag

The Saturday clean-up of the
7" block of Broad Street was a
great success! We had volun
teers from Sanford Lloyd, CPA,

Coffee Break Case, The Lamar
Executive Services, Kelley New
Interiors, Prime Commercial
Properties, Mike Newton
Landscape Designers, and resi
dents from Richmond Proper
tiesapartments. A city flat bed
truck wasfilled to the top with
limbs, weeds, and trash. The
parklooks great and the clean
up team is hoping to obtain
sponsorships for lunch-time
concerts.
Anyone wanting to sponsor
($100) or co-sponsor a concert
or wanting to provide enter
tainment, please call The
Lamar Building at (706) 722-

The next clean up is sched
uled for Saturday, October 27
from9:ooa.m.-12:00 noon. We
hope to paint the benches,
mulch, and plant new ground
cover and flowers. Please meet
in front of The Lamar Build
ing with paintbrushes and
-brooms.

Week each October. Together,
we are reaching millions of
children with the vital mes
sage that drugs are destruc
tive. This year marks the 14
annual celebration of National
Red Ribbon Week.

activities planned by Girlslnc.,
to promote Red Ribbon Week
in our community:
October 23: “Scare Away
Drugs” — All classes will
construct a life size scarecrow
to be displayed in front of the
building. 4:30 p.m.-5:30p.m.;
October 24: Red Ribbon Rally
“Shout Out Against Drugs”
presents poems with a drug
free message, 4:30 p.m.-5:30
p.m.;
October 25: Richmond
County K-9 Unit, 4:30 p.m.-

On Tuesday, October 23, the
board will hold its business
meeting at the same location
beginning at 8:30 a.m. Items
on the agenda include agency
and facilitator updates, and
reports from the Nuclear Ma
terials, Environmental
Remediation, Waste Manage
ment, Strategic & Long Term
Issues. Topicsinclude the Con
solidated Incineration Facil
ity, waste shipments and the
Americium Curium Stabiliza
tion Project. There will also be
a presentation of 2002 Mem
bership Candidates. Public
comment sessions will be of
fered on three occasions dur
ing the day. Theboard encour

tal flights that were hijacked

benefit selected charities in
support of the victims of the
tragedyon September 11,2001.
AUGUSTA FOCUS
When: The flag left Boston
on October 11, 2001 with a
goal to arrive in Los Angeles
on Veteran’s Day, November
11, 2001. These cities repre
sent the origination and desti
nation of American Flight 11
and United Flight 175.
How: The flag will be carried
around the clock to achieve
this goal. The routing is being
