The Lucy Craft Laney Museum of
Black History will host the next Senior
Luncheon on Wednesday, November 14,
2001. Special guest will be Leroy Davis,
author of the book on John Hope, the
first African-American president of
Morehouse College and Atlanta Univer
sity. Lunch will be $5. Please make

Davis’ book, John Hope and the Di
lemma of African American Leadership
and Black Higher Education in the Farly
Twentieth Century, is a biography and
autobiography on the first African-
American president of Morehouse Col
lege and Atlanta University. Hope was

open on November 2 until 8 p.m. First

More than 1,000 Augusta
area sixth graders will con
verge on Augusta State Uni
versity Thursday, Nov. 8, fora
wild show Wow! That’s Chem
istry?
“It’s less of a teaching expe
rience than a fun time to get
studentsexcited about science,
and chemistry in particular,”
said Stephanie Myers, associ
ate professor of chemistry at
ASU and event organizer.
The shows feature ASU pro
fessor and students demon
strating various chemistry
related experimentsincluding
fireballs, explosions and color
changes, she said.
“We invited all Richmond
and Columbia County schools,
but had to turn some down
because we ran out of space,”
Myers said.

Davis examines the conflict inherent
in Hope’s attempt tobalance hisjoint
roles as college president and na
tional leader. Along with his good
friend W.E.B. Du Bois, Hope was at

Born in Little Rock, Ark., Gregory
has been in the music business since
histeens. Currently performingsolo,
he hasbeen touring the southeast for
the past 10 years performing and
promoting his music. Gregory re
