ber and January. The Au
gusta VAMC recognizes two
employees each month for
theirleadership qualities, con
tributions to the medical cen
ter goals, customer service
skillsand community involve
ment. :
-Jane Barnard, pharmacist,
Clinical Support Service Line,
Downtown Division, Decem
ber. Ms. Barnard provides
excellent customer service by
consistently keeping the
needs of our veterans as a
priority. When working at
the outpatient window, she
takes the time to make sure
that the patient understands
how to take his medication
anddeliversinstructions that
patients understand. She
works tirelessly to improve
communication between the
medical staff and the phar
macy. She often takes the
time to talk with physicians
one-on-one to provide drug
information or formulary al
ternatives. She has been an
asset in the cost savings/cost
avoidance efforts of the Phar
macy Department and the
Medical Center. Barnardisa

celebration of the 25" anniversary of the Augusta State
University Reese Library. The building is named for Dr. and
Mrs. John T. Reese, parents of alumna Katherine Reese
Pamplin. Dr. Nelson, current library director, Dr.
Bloodworth, ASU president, and Mr. Rowlond all ad
dressed a crowd including a number of current and retired

AMCVB holds free family
reunion workshop
The Augusta Metropolitan
Convention and Visitors Bu
reau (AMCVB) is offering a
free Family Reunion Work
shop at Enterprise Mill, 1450
Greene St., on Saturday, Feb
ruary 2, 2002, from 10 a.m. to
12 p.m.
In 2001, the AMCVB wel
comed 96 family reunions to
Augusta with more than
13,800 attendees. “Family
reunions are a great way to
introduce people to Augusta,”
said Michelle Bovian, AMCVB
Family Reunion specialist.

hotels and caterers.

list for community service
Augusta State University
has been cited as one of the
best institutions in the coun
try by a national publication
examining the community ser
vice component of federal
work-study programs. The
Washington Monthly, in an
article about the failure of
institutions to commit to com
munity service through its
work-study programs, ranks
Augusta State 10thamongthe
Top 20 Schools for Commu
nity Service in the country.
“The community service
componentismandatedinthe
work-study program,” ex
plains ASU Financial Aid di
rector Kevin Wellwood. “At
least seven percent of the fed
eral funds received by an in
stitution for this program are
supposed be allotted to com
munity service jobs,” he says.
Augusta State committed
34.4 percent ofits work-study

year to year, says Wellwood,
