conference. Undefeated Cal

Head coach Gary Tuell
knows the votes mean respect,
and knows history is on his
team’s side. “It’s nice to be
recognized on a national level.
Part of that recognition is the
result of the success we’ve had
over the past four years, so you
have to give some of the credit
to the players who won here in
the past and established a win
ning tradition for the current
team. Ifyou have successovera
sustained period of time, even
tually people notice.”
Not taking anything away
from this season, Tuell says,
“Most of the credit goes to this
group of guys. They’ve battled
through injuries and lineup
changes and some difficult cir
cumstances but they’ve never
let up or taken the easy way
out. They’ve worked extremely
hard and played even harder,
and that’s a testament to their
character and their hearts.
We’re not big or particularly
talented or deep, but we’ve got
a lot of guys with big hearts
who give their best effort most
nightsout. Of course, theyneed
to remember that the impor
tant games are still ahead and
not dwell on the past.”
