the Recreation and Parks
Department with The Em
ployee of the Year Award for
2001. Mr. Moraetes was
awarded the Employee of the
Month back in November
2000. All previous monthly
winners were considered for
the Year award. Mr. Moraetes
Students win
spelling bee
~ One of Richmond County’s
most competitive Spelling
Bees was held February B§,
2002 at Glenn Hills Middle
School. Twelve students from
the middle school level and 35
students from the elementary
school level competed for the
spelling bee title. The win
ners are:
- Elementary: 1% Place
Desiree Richardson of Willis
Foreman Elementary School,
and runner-up Emily Leggins
of Blythe Elementary School.
- Middle: 1% Place Williams
Myersofthe C.T. Walker Tra
ditional Magnet School and
runner-up Josh Barrett of Tutt
Middle School.
The winners from both el
ementary and middle school
levels competed in the county
competition. The 2002 Rich
mond County Spelling Bee
winner is Josh Barrett. The
county alternate is William
Myers. In March, the county
winner will compete in the
District Spelling Bee.
100 Black Men

The“ 100” will be hosting its
next major fundraiser, a
“Black-Tie Gala,” on May 24,
2002 at the Radisson
Riverfront Hotel. More infor

Family Y offers
flag football
The Family Y’s new Flag
Football program for children
6-12 years old will hold regis
tration through February 22,
2002 at the Wheeler Center,
3532 Wheeler Road, and at
Southside Center, 2340
Milledgeville Road. Registra
tion hours are Monday
through Friday, 8 a.m. to 1
p.m., and 4 to 6 p.m.; and
Saturday, 9 a.m. to 12 noon.
In addition, Prime Time Dis
covery after school program
participants may register for
Flag Football at their Prime
Time sitesduringregular pro
gram hours. Program levels
include: Peewee (ages 6-8,
coed); Bantam (ages 9-10,
coed); Midget(ages 11-12, girls)
and Midget (ages 11-12, boys).
The eight-week flag football
season begins in March. Pro
gram costs are $25 for Family
Y Gold Members, S3O for Sil
ver Members and $35 for
Bronze Members. Fee assis
tance is available. For fur
