“This conference gives us
the means to reach a larger
cross section of Georgia
women than normal because
of the restrictions of privacy
laws on contacting those who
might be at higher risk,” said
Ginger Ackerman Smith,
COGA’s founder and presi
dent. “Women who have a
family history of breast or
color cancer, women who
have never borne children
and women who have taken
fertility drugs are considered
higher risks than the general
population.. We need to
spread the word to these and
other women so that they
can communicate actively
with their physicians about
how to control the risks and
identify the symptoms of
