Dr. Burnett Gallman’s
talk, “The African Origins
of Civilization,” will be
accompanied by a Power-
Point presentation that
will include pictures he has
taken on trips to Egypt.
The program is offered in
conjunction with the exhib
it “Tutankhamun: ‘Won
derful Things’ from the
Pharaoh’s Tomb” and is
part of the museum’s cele
bration. of African-Ameri
can History Month.
Gallman promises his
presentation will be enjoy
able for all people of all
ages. He is looking forward
to questions from the audi
ence. “There is no such
thing as a boring question,
just a boring answer,” he
says. :
Gallman, who was born
and reared in Hartsville,
says he became interested
in research when he was
studying his family’s histo
ry. That led him to African-

Gallman has given many
talks on ancient Egypt,
including some about his
professional specialty, med
icine. People are quite
interested in the subject,
he says.
“Almost every area of
human endeavor” — from
architect to religion to
mathematics — can be
traced back to ancient
Egypt,” Gallman says. Sci
entists still don’t under
stand how the pyramids
were built. Three major
world religions, Judaism,
Christianity and Islam,
trace their beginnings to
Egypt. Greek mathemati
cians Pythagoras and
Archimedes are believed to
have studied in Egypt.
“The origins of so much
that we now consider East
ern and Western civiliza
tion” can be traced to
Egypt, he says. “I think

Ten Star All Star Basketball Camp
Applications are now being evaluated for
The Ten Star All Star Summer Basketball
Camp. The Camp is by invitation only. Boys
and girls ages 10-19 are eligible to apply.
Past participants include: Michael Jordan,
Tim Duncan, Vince Carter, Jerry Stack
house, Grant Hill and Antawn Jamison.
Players from 50 states and eight foreign
countries attended the 2002 camp. College
basketball scholarships are possible for play
ers selected to the All-American Team.
