$23,000 to 16 students

technical schools at a banquet
Saturday evening. The scholar
ship program is funded by the
Pepsi Cola Bottling Group.

directors, scholarship winners,
parents and supporters. The
First Annual “Make A ‘Way”
Scholarship Banquet — was
held on Satrday, August, 7
from 4-6 PM at the Commu
nity Church of God,

The “Make A Way” Schol
arship Program is a scholarship
program for students who wish
to pursue technical and adult
education, professional and
trade or an accredited certifica
tion or licensing program. The

bers of a Concerned Black
Clergy member church syna
gogue or mosque.

quet. “At Pepsi we want to give
back to our community and
allow people to reach their own

Thats great news for Sjo
darhie Bibbs who will study
fashion design at American
Intercontinental Unviersity.
The mother of five is not your
traditional student. While most
of the 16 scholarship recipients
are still in their teens or early
20s, Sjodarhie is 33 with a fam
ily. Her children Zonik, 9;
Galaz, 7; Zy; Nx, 2 and Ny,
13 months.
While assisting one of her
children with planning their
goals for the year, Sjodarhie
realized she needed to make
goals for herself. “I was raised in
Germany and then in Valdasta,
she explains. “ I wanted to
study fashion design but every
one told me I could not make
money in that area so instead |
enrolled at Ft. Valley State and
spent three years studying Mar
keting,
She never finished there as
the babies started to come and
she became an “at home
mom.”. Now, she’s turning
back to her true love, fashion.
“I've always sewn so it is natu
ral. Now as my children prepare
for school, I am preparing
also,” said the member of Hill
side Chapel and Truth Center.
