Arthur Ashe Kids’ Day honors tennis legend

Arthur Ashe Kids Day — a
day-long festival of kids’
tennis activities including
interactive games, musi
cal entertainment, free
clinics and the World
Team Tennis finals — will
take place on Saturday,
August 28 at the USTA
National Tennis Center
in Flushing Meadows,
N.Y. from 9 am.-5 p.m.
R&B teen sensation JoJo
will join tennis stars Sere
na Williams, Andy Rod
dick, Roger Federer and
other top players to head
line the festivities. Host
ed by MTV V] Quddus,
Arthur Ashe Kids’ Day is
the official kick-off event
for the 2004 US Open
that runs August 30 -
September 12.

The Arthur Ashe Kids’
Day stadium show will
take place from 12:00
noon-1:30 p.m. and be
broadcast nationally by
Foundation. His responsibili
ties will include soliciting
items for the silent auction
and assisting with fundraising
efforts. This announcement

(National Junior Tennis
League), which was estab
lished by Arthur Ashe,
Charlie Pasarell and
Sheridan Snyder in 1969.
USA Tennis NJTL is a
community-driven pro
gram supported by the
USTA, that significantly
impacts the lives of
America’s youth. USA
Transplant Foundation.
In regards to serving on the
committee, Mr. Rocker stated,
“My good friend Ira Wilkins is
a transplant recipient, so it was
natural for me to get involved.
The foundation is doing great
things for people here in Geor
gia, and I'm proud to be part
of the team.”

tion will be holding its annual
event, “The Many Lives
You've Touched” on Thursday,
Sept. 30 at the, The Tongue &
Groove Lounge in Buckhead.
The event will feature a live
art auction as well as a silent
auction. Tickets are $25 in
advance or S3O at door. Pro
ceeds will benefit the Georgia
Transplant Foundation.

Blood Center will hold its
24th Annual Time to Care
Blood Give-In on Tuesday,
August 31st, from 8 a.m. to 8
p-m. at First Baptist Church
of Augusta Activities Building
(3500 Walton Way). The
theme this year is M*A*S*H*
and scvcra]y members of the
military will be volunteering
at the event.

services for patients who
cannot afford them,

center.
This contribution will
specifically be allocated
for staff and family
training in art communi
cation therapy for the
growing number of chil
dren and adults with
severe autism, and to
help parents of stuttering
