Junior Achievement and Lights on After School kick off after-school programs in Georgia Junior Achievement of Georgia announced a goal of reaching 5,000 local youths with JA after school programs in the next year during a Light on After school event at the Robert D. The event, which was held nationally in conjunction with Lights on After school, included a presentation of a $20,000 donation from the JCPen ny After school Fund, 5,000 of which will be for the Augusta. district, in sport of the effort. JA of Georgia — Augusta will use the funds to pilot after-school programs for children throughout the area in the coming months, such as the Our Families, Our City, Our World, and JA Global Marketplace programs that are currently taking place at the Girls Incorporated of the CSRA. Of those, 16 percent (nearly 1 in 5 youths) implied a desire for more variety in after school offerings, including sports, art or music, work ing with computers, learning how to run a business, spending time mentors and learning about various careers. “We believe that by bringing JA’s extensively researched curricula into more after-school settings we can help broaden and enrich the after-school experience for hundreds of young people in Augusta,” said Robyn Verdery, Exec utive Director of Junior Achievement of Georgia — Augusta. “We wish to thank JCPenney After school for providing resource so we can begin to do just that.” AUGUSTA FOCUS The coronation of Miss and Mr. Paine College- Elect 2004-2005 will be held on Friday, October 29 at 8 p.m. in the Gilbert-Lambuth Memo rial Chapel.
