United Way of the CSRA hosted its 2005 Annual Meeting
United Way of the CSRA
hosted Its 2005 Annual Meet
ing on February 22 at the
Radisson Rivertront Hotel
with over 600 avic and busi
ness leaders in attendance.
Cheryl Check, 2004 Cam
paign Chair, stepped to the
;mfiium and proudly
announced that United Way
had reached its goal by rasing
$4,403,512 tor tY\c 2004 Cam
paign.... the largest campaign
ever involving over 700 local
businesses and thousands of
contributors. Now, they
money raised will be allocated
to funding programs that help
those in need throughout the
CSRA.

the guest speaker, Naomi
Haines Gnfhith, president of
the consuling company, Red
Clay & Vinegar, based in
Nashville, Tennessee. Ms. Grif
fith, a natonal speaker and
consultant on child welfare
issues, related some of her own
expeniences in- challenging the
audience the audience to work
with business, education, juve
nile justice, mental health, child
abuse prevention, and family
violence systems to improve the
lives of the children in our
community.

gic Planning Committee,
announced a new community
impact ininative that will be
developed by United Way in
2005... Reducing the Ina

year United Way partnered
with Augusta State University
and Junior League of Aufi::)sm
to collect and analyze data from
written surveys and focus

were identfied as follows:
Crime, Drugs and Violence;
Education; Economic Devel
opment and Employment
Issues; and Health and Health
care Access. She stated that
most stakeholders felt that we
should focus on strengthening
the family as a means of
responding to these emerging
