Usher won five Gram

“I know I am dying of
AIDS but I am going to
keep on telling people
about this foul, filthy,
nasty, vulgar disease.”
Despite that declaration a
decade ago, she is still
alive and well today and
now an ordained minister.
She continues to spread
information about
HIV/AIDS around the
world.
At a Delta Sigma Theta
Sorority luncheon in Dal

sisters), I am telling you
that you have to take con
trol of your bodies. Don't
let a man touch you with
out a condom. To not use
a condom is like commit
ting suicide.”
Few witness the mental
or even the physical chal
lenges this Baptist minis
ter endures. She’s good at
hiding her suffering to
hopefully help others
avoid the same fate. Nau
sea, dysfunctional uterine
bleeding, depression,
diarrhea, weight gain and
loss, headaches, vaginal
discharges and fear are
just a few of the many
side effects that she said
has occurred. And then
there’s the enormous
amount of medicine that
she has to take to insure
that her T-Cell Count
remain at a safe level.
Does she regret appear
ing in Essence? Not in the
least.
“It was a valiant effort
on my behalf and on
Essence’s part,” said Lewis-

Usher is part of a group

the Detroit-area founder
and chairman of Quick

mortgage lender. Gilbert
also owns Rock Financial

The other major part

Gilbert and Katzman
flanked Usher at the
press conterence. Asked
how the two business
men met an A-list enter
tainer of the Hip Hop
persuasion, and Gilbert
said a banker whom they
all knew said Usher was
interested in acquiring a
sports franchise. After
that, it was on.

The region’s only accredited Stroke Program.
MCG’s Stroke Program has been awarded the Certificate
of Distinction by the Joint Commission on
Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO).
JCAHO is the largest accrediting organization, setting
the standards for healthcare nationwide. MCG is the only center in the
region and one of only five centers in Georgia to receive this accreditation.
It takes more than a hospital to be a national leader in stroke care and
prevention. It takes an academic medical center. For more information
on the Stroke Program, call 721-CARE (2273) or visit MCGHealth.org.

“Sometimes you try to

“We are pleased that after

to the arrest of Mikail
