EDWARD PATTEN,
a member of Gladys
Knight & The Pips, died
last Friday at St. Mary's
Mercy Hospital in Livonia.
He was 65.
Patten, an Atlanta native
and longtime Detroit resi
dent, died about 2 a.m.
EST from a stroke he had
suffered a few days before,
said William Guest, another
member of the group.
Knight had been perform
ing for several years when
she hired Patten, her cousin,
as a backup singer in 1959.
Gladys Knight & the Pips
recorded for Motown from
1966-1973 and for Buddah
Records from 1973-77.
They later recorded for CBS
until breaking up in 1989.
