The Message of the Resurrection
By MARY SULLIVAN
Special to the Augusta Focus
As we celebrate Easter this
year, let us remember the rea
son for the season. Eternal hope
is the message of the resurrec
tion!
Let me take you back to this
event that gives us the blessed
hope. After the crucifixion of
Jesus on the cross, the disciples
gathered in the upper room, a
place where a few hours carlier
they had felt secure, safe and at
i;na-. After all, they were with
us.
He was m]fififi them about
the things that He was about to
face, the betrayal of Judas, the
denial of Peter and that the rest
of the disciples would leave
Him. He was about to face the
:fony in the garden and them
timately the cross. It was true
that the disciples listened in dis
belief as Jesus spoke of what was
about to happen.
Alone in the darkness of that

little room, the disciples recalled
the words and events of the past
few days. I can imagine that
tear filled eyes revealed the sor
row in their hearts. Oh, how
they longed for Jesus. To walk
with Him and walk with Him

shame. Like the disciples, we
may have wondered, Why,
God? Why, God?
After the crudifixion, the dis
aples' minds were wo full of
sorrow to recall all that Jesus
had wld them. It was at this
point, when all hope appeared
to be gone, that Jesus, came to
them (John 20:19).
There will be tmes in our
lives when God does not pro
vide the answer to our sorrow.
However, we can have the
blessed assurance that He is
aware of every pain, heartache,
and problem or hurt we experi
ence. We can find confidence
in knowing that He is The Way
through any situation we face.
If we trust Him, we can contn
ue to experience the same eter
nal hope of the resurrection
that He gave to the disciples.
Therefore, during this Easter
celebration of the risen Savior,
be sall and know that He is
near.
