Display of Girls’ Club Is
Finest and Largest in
Its History.

On the left hand side of the Ag
ricultural Building at the Griffin
Spalding County Fair, is a large and
beautiful exhibit made by the
Girls’ Canning Club, said by Mrs.
Franklin Sibley, -

In this particular exhibit are
quantities of beautiful canned veg
etables of many varieties, preserves,
jellies, pickles, the watermelon pre
serves being particularly beautiful.
Hand made dresses, pretty ly>
gerie, plain and fancy aprons, ki
monos, some embroidered and others
with long, graceful sprays of con
trasting color appliqued, shirt
waists, children’s clothes, doll
clothes, centerpieces embroidered in
white and some in colored wools,
luncheon sets embroidered in white

The Individual Booths.
Mrs. R. M. Mitchell’s booth came
next, the decorations being pink and
tops, ivy vines, vases of yellow chry
santhemums and sprays of southern
smilax. The display of canned fruit
canned vegetables and preserves,
were attractively arranged in a tier
of steps covered in white.
Mrs. Ralph M. Jones’ attractive
display was the third in line and
was decorated in green and white
crepe paper and -garlands of pine
tops. Dozens and dozens of all
kinds of canned fruit and canned
vegetables, preserves, pickles, sauces,
etc., were effectively arranged or.

Mrs. A. W. Edwards’ booth was
also in green and white, Hand
some growing ferns at both ends of
the entrance and sever, rows of
white covered steps in the back
ground held the display of the same
articles.
Mrs. Parham’s Booth. .
Mrs. Henry Parham’s exhibit came
next, the decorations beink pink and
white. A delicate tracery of green
smilax adorns the wall. Pink and
white crepe paper was twined around
the large pole encircling the booth
and decorated the two sides and the
window. Row after row of canned
and preserved fruits, jellies and
canned vegetables made an attrac
tive display.
In Mrs. Albert Swint’s exhibit,
ferns were banked before the win
dow, flanked by pine tops on either
side of the window. The display
was attractively arranged in five
white covered rows of steps.
Mrs. M argar e t —Dupree’s exhibit
was next in line. The decorations
at the two sides and directly in
front were growing pink bagonias
and ferns, with a garland of orna
mental cedar as a frieze around the
booth. In the background the dis
play was made on several rows of
steps coyered in white.
Miss Clark’s Booth.
Miss Myrtice Clark’s booth was
in pink and yellow crepe intertwined
as decorations, ferns and pine tops
were also used. Small bunches of
pink were placed at intervals under
which was a garland of coral vine
around the three sides of the booth.
This display was similar to others
and arranged similarly in 5 or 6
rows with a white background.
The exhibit of Miss Evelyn Tay
lor was attractive with branches of
pine tops, pink and white paper dec
orations and 7 rows of canned
fruits, jellies and preserves, At
one side of this booth was a pretty
patch work quilt of gray and red
with tiny yellow polda dots.
Miss Nann Brooks’ decorations
weer pink begonias, pink sultanas,
and pine tops with pink and white
crepe curtains at the windows. Six
rows of canned fruit, vegetables and
preserves were displayed on white
shelves, one above the other. A
hand made blue lines dress, em

eon sets, in white and colors were
in this display.
Miss Dupree’s Exhibit.
The exhibit of Miss Emma Dupree
was decorated in pink and white,
pretty pink growing geraniums be
ing the flowers used. Five or six
rows of canned fruit, vegetables,
preserves and other things in glass
jars and a dainty child’s dress of
pink organdy were in this display,
which had a pink background.
Miss Pauline Rhodes’ was the last

made, Her booth was dec
orated with southern smilax, pots
of cactus, ferns and pink begonias
with the white covered steps in the
background, on which the display
was arranged. At the two sides
were displayed tray covers, 'pillow
cases, luncheon sets, some embroid
ered in white and others in dainty
colored designs.
Deserve Much Credit.
All these exhibits were very fine.
Among the vegetables canned were
whole ears of com, other vegetables
and fruits being as attractively pre
pared and displayed. The women,
the teacher and the girls have made
most creditable and beautiful dis
plays and deserve unstinted praise
for their year’s work, which rep
resents much time, labor and pa
tience, as well as artistic taste.

of Eugene Snyder and Charlie Hatta
way, charged with the murder of
Hattie Wimberly, of Augusta, was
given to the jury this morning by
Judge E. T. Shurley.

ON BENCH AT CHICAGO
Chicago, Oct. 14.—Judge John R.
Caverly who sentenced Nathan Leo
pold, Jr., and Richard Loeb to life
imprisonment for the killing of Robert
Franks, returned to the bench today,
after several weeks in a hospital re
cuperating from the nervous strain
brought on by the case.
