WITH 3 CITIES
A challenge from the LaGrange
Rotary Club for an attendance
contest between the Griffin, La
Grange, West Point and Newnan
Clubs was accepted by the Griffin
Rotary Club at its meeting today.
. This contest will be decided next
March at a joint meeting of the
four clubs and the trophy will be
a silver loving cup.
John Mills and Evander Shap
ard, Jr., had charge of the meet
ing. Mr. Mills introduced W. G.
Nichols, who delivered a brief talk
in which he urged the importance
. at all Rotary meetings. He was
41 followed by the Rev. John F.
Yarbrough who delivered an ad
dress on the principles for which
Rotary stands.
Visitor Praises Ctiy.
Walter Graefe introduced R. V.
Grimes, who is looking for a lo
cation for the establishment of
a large canning plant.
Mr. Grimes congratulated the
citizens upon having a thriving
7 city and said the location of his
* plant would be announced soon.
Chairman Hammond announced
the appointment of the following
committees for conducting future
meetings: Nov. 11, W. H. Beck
and T. H. Wynne; Nov. 20, J. H.
Cheatham and E. K. Domingos;
Dec. 4, H. B. Montgomery and
L. W. Traer; Dec. 11., Frank Mays
and Paul J. Slaton; Dec. 18, the
Rev. John F. Yarbrough and W.
G. Nichols,

Twelve Orphans Appear in Court
To Hear Suit Over Father’s Death
New York, Nov. 6.—The mother
less and fatherless Dugan family
had its day in court Saturday.
On a single long bench in
Queens Supreme court the 12 chil
dren who range in age from one
to 20 and have lost both parents
in less than three months, qat

gled over witnesses in a $100,000
damage suit growing out of the
death of their father.

Shock Hastens Death.
At the time of the accident, Mr.
Dugan’s wife, Margaret, had just
returned to their home following
a serious operation at Flatbush
hospital. Shock of her husband’s
death is said to have hastened
her o%vn, which came October 4.
Elizabeth Dugan, 18, testified
when the case opened Monday be-
fore Justice Leander B. Faber.and
a jury, that her father had earned
$35 a week in the grocery where
he had worked for 13 years* under
three different proprietors.

Atlanta, Nov. 6.—“With the
passing of the general election,
and the gratifying result shown
in this state, there how can be

no further obstacle in the way of
the people of Georgia taking up
the task of constructive and pro
gressive efforts toward some de
velopment of the state,” said Gov
ernor Walker today.
I have said before, and repeat
now, that . for a long time
my most earnest deaix-e has been
to bring together in the'common
cause of state development and
expansion all of our people.
Tentative plans in that direc
tion have been made heretofore,
and* from time to time certain ef
forts have been made to bring
about the accomplishment of such
definite results, but politics or
some other obstacle has come -up,
in one way or another, to defer a
real and effective work.
U Those things now are out of
the way, the prospects for the im
mediate future are propitious for
a genuine devotion to unselfish
constructive work in the interest
of the state as a state, and I ex
pect to ask for that aid from those
