red for the Zebulon boys, and
Bafker and Cochran for Concord.

starred for the Zebulon girls, and
Raven and Fossett for the Con
cord girls.
Zebulon also played Molena
Wednesday afternoon, two games.
The Zebulon boys have played
nine games this season and, only
lost two, losing to Fort Valley
and-BarnesviUe, two teams which
were not in their league. The
Zebulon girls have played eight
games and lost none.
John Chapman Dies.
John Chapman died Wednesday
afternoon and was buried Thurs
day afternoon. He was a son of
Joe Chapman and about 50 years
of age. ’ He is survived by two
sisters.
Barbecue.
A barbecue was given in Zebvf
Ion Friday night to raise. funds
for the building of a gymnasium.
The senior class of the high school
is behind the movement to build
this gymnasium.

Mr. and Mrs. W. T. Holmes had
as their guests for Thanksgiving
Mr. and Mrs. Grady Woodall and
little daughter, Carolyn, of Grif
fin; Cleveland Holmes, of Macon,
Mr. and Mrs. Homer Lunceford
and little daughter, Millicent.
W. T. Gardner, of near Smarrs,
lost his home by fire Saturday
night, November 23. The fire
started on the roof and is sup
posed to have been caused by
burning soot from the chimney.
Only a few bed 1 clothes were saved
and there was no insurance. The
home was one of the landmarks
of the county and was formerly
occupied by Alexander Perkins,
a prominent citizen of the county
in his day. 1
While returning from a trip to
Griffin Sunday afternoon J. S.
and Bluford Abernathy narrowly
escaped serious injury when the
car they were driving struck a
fill when about five miles from
Forsyth and overturned, The
right arm of J. S. Abernathy was
pinned under the windsheld and
he suffered cuts on the hands and
head. It was necessary to sew
up one of his wounds, but he has
been able to remain at his place
of business. Bluford Abernathy
escaped without injury.

trict, who was in town today.

the city today.
Judge E. F. Dupree and Col. E.
M. Owen, of Zebulon, were in the

Mrs. Mittie A. Davis (Roberts,
77, died at the home of J. L.
Fletcher, in Jackson, Wednesday
after a brief illness. She was a
native of Newton county, but had
been a resident of Jackson for
several years.
The Butts county board of ad
ucation has voted to consolidate
the Elgin school with the new
Towaliga consolidated school. This
new school is now a consolidation
of West Butts, Elgin, Sandy
Plains, Oak Grove and Beulah
schools, and is one of the largest
and most modern in Middle Geor
gia.
Three tracts of Butts county
farm lands were offered for sale
Tuesday. Prices ranged fair to
low.
J. R'. Hughey, administrator of
the McEIheney sisters estate, sold
161 acres in the 610th district, the
parcel being bid in by T. W. Fu
tral for $5,150.00. The tract sold
for $32 per acre.
T. M. Ridgeway, administrator
of the estate of H. C. McEIheney,
sold 140 acres in the 610th dis
trict. This tract was bid in by
T. W. Futral for $800, or $5.70
per acre.
Mrs. F. M. Maddox sold 65 acres
in Iron Springs district, the par
being bid in by A. H. Pope
$2,277.50. This tract brought
per acre.

Miles Minter, moving picture ac
tress, and Lieut. Commander H.
H. Ridder have arrived in Nor
folk and with them whisperings
of a romance which may unite the
sea service with the screen art.
Reports from the hotel at which
the actress is stopping are that
the two will wed during the week
that the U. S. S. Jason, of which
Ridder is the commander, is in

there Monday of this week.
W. S. Jones on Monday killed
the biggest hog yet reported for
the season, having fattened him at
his mill at the end of Railroad
street. The hog weighted 770
pounds, which shows how unusual
ly large he was. Mr. Jones pur
chased the hog while a pig three
years ago from one of the pig
club girls of Lamar county.
GORDON DORMITORY
AT BARNESVILLE HAS
BEEN COMPLETED
BarnesviUe, Dec. 6.—The new
Gordon dormlt ory, which has been
under construction for about four
months, was completed Saturday.
It has four apartments and 30
rooms, all of which are well
equipped. It is well arranged,
having many convenient bath
rooms, showers and all modern

conveniences. The dining hall is
a separate building, about 15
yards from the dormitory. It is
also well arranged hnd neat in
appearance. It has an apartment
for the president and his family.

From the looks of the material
for a basketball team and the
way the men are shewing up in
practice, Gordon will have a win
ning quintet this year. Practice
was started about three weeks ago
and the men are making good
progress under Coach Hastings.
The men who seem most prom
ising are Captaain C. K. Cooper,
who has been in the varsity for
the past two years and who is one
of the snappiest little forwards in
prep school; A. L. Smith, who has
been on the varsity one year be
fore and is showing up well at
center; Brookshire Hicken, W.
Bush, V. Bush and Britt. Gordon
is expected to give many schools
trouble by the way these stars are
performing.
