He is still at the Griffin hospit al and is suffering from a broken arm and leg and dislocated hip, Wilbur McCullough and W. W. Maddox, who were said t 6 be in the automobile that caused the accident, are stijl in jail. The other person in the ease, Andrew Waldrop, of Indian Springs, against whom a warrant has been issued, charging him with drunkenness, is expected to surrender. Officers went for him yesterday afternoon, but he was not at home. Relatives said he would come to Griffin some time today. MRS. J. L. LEWIS v DIES AT HOME NEAR MIDWAY CHURCH Barnesville, Dec, 17.—Mrs. J. L, Lewis died at the family home on the Luke Dumas place, near Midway church, last Saturday morning, after a lingering iliness. The funeral and burial took place at Antioch church on the Barnes vltle-Yatesville road, the Rev. J. S. Winn conducting the services, which were largely at tended. The minister paid a beautiful tribute to the memory of the good woman. Mrs, Lewis was formerly Miss Mary Jane Hudaon and was born in Taylor county December 18, 1869. She was married to J. L, Lewis September 3, 1879 and join ed the Midway Baptist church at Butler in August, 1882. During her long and helpful life she was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need and was tenderly devoted to the members of her family, giving herself to their interests in an unselfish service. Mrs. Lewis is survived by her husband, three sons, T. M. Lewis, of Barnesville; I. A. Lewis, of Barnesville; and, H. C. Lewis, of Bradentown, Fla.; and two daugh ters, Mrs. W. L. Brown, of Grif fin} end Mrs. E. N. Rowell, of Macon. ATLANTA BEAUTY CONTEST PROMOTER IS EXONERATED Atlanta, Dec. 17.—A technical inconsistency in the indictment and In the state's own testimony, wss responsible Tuesday for the exoneration of Lee Manchel, beau ty contest promoter at the last Southeastern Fair, who was charged with absconding with $1,400 of the fair association's money. Judge R. N. Hardeman, before whom the case was tried, directed a verdict of not guilty. The indictment- against the [young promoter charged him with taking $1,400, and the technical discrepancy was cited when the •tate’4 witnesses testified that part of this sum belonged to Manchell. When the state an nounced that it rested its case, attorneys for Manchell arose and asked Judge Hardeman to direct a verdict of not guilty on those grounds. SECOND TANKERSLEY TRIPLET DIES HERE Leon, the month old child of Mr. and Mrs. W. N. Tankersley, died at the home, 207 Cherry street, Tuesday evening -at 8;30 o’clock, being the eacond of triplets who has died within the last few days. Funeral services will be held from the residence tomorrow af ternoon at 2 o'clock. The Rev. John W. Ballard will conduct the services. Burial will be in Oak Hill cemetery with Haiaten Bros, in charge. , Besides his parents, he is sur vived by two sisters and two brothers, FORTY-FOUR WORD NOTE PUT IN EYE OF NEEDLE Washington, Dec. 17.—A forty four word letter reposing in the eye of a needle has been receiv ed by the Smithsonian Institution.
