GLEE CLUB WILL
APPEAR FRIDAY
Greater Mercer’s Glee and In
strumental Club, which is said
to be Mercer’s greatest glee and
instrumental club, will give an
entertainment at the High School
auditorium in Griffin at 8:15 o’
clock Friday night. The club will
appear here for the benefit of
the Hepsie Sims Drake Memorial.
The visi,t of the singers in Grif
fin marks the first out of town
show for this season. Spirit is
said to be high among the glee
men over their chance to re-visit
some-of the places that welcomed
them last year. Griffin is one of
these.
The first show of the season
was given before a Macon audi
ence November 10. Then the song
birds took a flight that is sche
duled to land them in Griffin for
the show Friday night.
After Griffin they will bi.-rr at
Agnes Scott College, aha Monday
will give a like performance in
Atlanta. Other towns to be visited
are Brer.au College, Nov. 17; To
coa. Nov. 18; Hartwell, Noy. 19;
EJberton, Nov. 20; ' and Athens,
Nov. 21.

John Henry Walsh, of -New Or

a member of the shipping board,
succeeding Frederick I .Thompson,
resigned.

is a former navy officer and
during the war was a commander,

material officer. He was

Valdosta, Ga., Nov. 11.—Begin
ning what is considered the most
important development in recent
years at the Georgia State Wo
man’s College here, work has
started on the new athletic field
of the College.
The site for the field, which
five hundred by three feet, is now
being graded by the City of Val
and other work will go for
word as soon as materials ar
rive.
The field will consist, in part,
0 f the Gymnasium, which is one
corner of the site, an out
door gymnasium with playground
equipment, six concrete tennis
courts, race tracks, and a field
for Soccer and Hockey.
