that he gave his beet effort to

Asked whether he or the Sou

"Oh. we have done nothing aside
from sending out literature, rWe
have taken no part in elections."
“You took no part in the 1928
election?’ ’asked Senator Walsh,
Democrat, Montano.
"I have taken a part in every
election since I have become of
age, as a citizen. We simply send
cut statements cf the church and
the board. As to getting into that
particular fight, I did not, except
perhaps in my home state.”
’’But you were active in the
1928 election, were you not?”
“A little more active than us

To The Citizens
OF
Spalding County
At the urgent solicitation of many of the citizens and voters
of Spalding County I hereby announce myself as a candidate for
the office of Representative from Spalding County in the General
Assembly of Georgia, subject to the Democratic Primary to be
held Sept. 10, 1930. I will greatly appreciate the support of all
voters and citizens of the county.
T. J. PURDY
As every one knows, taxation in this state has become a bur
den to our citizens and seems to be growing more burdensome
each year until our good people and business interests can bear
it no longer.
In my opinion, the next session of the Georgia Legislature
will be the most important session in many years, concerning tax
ation in our state. The people are demanding relief and are real
izing the fact more than ever before that some measure must be
adopted to check this ruinous drain on our private citizenry.
If I am elected as vour Representative I promise that I will
use my best efforts and influence in cprrecting and relieving our
citizens of some of these burdens.
I favor a unified system of Public Schools for Spalding
County. I believe that every white boy and girl in my county
should have an equal opportunity, as far as possible, to obtain,
at least, a common school education, without which they are
handicapped as citizens and cannot attain to the usefulness to
I .which they aspire.
I favor a uniform system of School books for the State of
Georgia. Books that can be used in all our schools. This meas
ure would curb to some extent the School Book Trusts and save
millions of dollars to the patrons of our public schools.
I favor all legislation that preserves and protects the best
interests of the mass of our great citizenry of our great State of
Georgia, and I am against all legislation that protects special in
terests, and benefits only a special class.
If you agree with me in this 1 will appreciate your vote on
Sept 10, 1930.
Yours very truly,
T. J. PURDY.

It Is estimated that out of every
100 boys on Manhattan Island, 80
spend their leisure time upon the

they can do there, 50 per cent are
inimical to character and 20 per
cent are downright illegal.
