OFFICIAL PAPER
City of Griffin, Spalding County
United States Court, Northern
District of Georgia
Postponed Day
Medical Care
By H. C. NAYLOR. Pre*.,
Lane Drug Stores Inc.
Too often the doctor’s phone rings
at night calling tor his attention
to some trouble which could have
been treated during the day.
Doctors understand why.
resistance seems to be at a low
during hours of darkness and an
ordinary difficulty seems magni
fied at night.
However, these are times when
the doctor, too, needs consideration.
His working hours are long and
demanding. His hours of rest should
be as unbroken as possible.
Make every effort to guard against
night calls for the doctor, let such
calls be only in case of emergency,

Senate leaders meanwhile dis
played no great hurry about getting
around to the much-modified “holl
day draft extension bill which
the House whipped through yes
terday by a 290-108 vote, or to a
companion bill for Army-Navy pay
boosts.
The Senate already has pending
a measure of its own calling for
extending the draft a full'year be
yond May 15. Scant immediate
enthusiasm was dlscernabie for the
House formula, with its five-month
<« holiday" on inductions and a ban
against drafting teen-agers.
Back over In the House wing, new
delay developed on the administra
tion's emergency housing bill to pro
vide 2,700,000 dwelling units in the
next two years. The House refused
to go along with a 600,000,000 sub
sidy fund which the Senate had re
stored to the measure after the
House had knocked it out.
The House refusal put the prob
lem in the hands of a Senate-House
conference committee which will
have to work out a compromise on
the disputed point before the mea
sure can be sent to President Tru
man.

MONEY? / .'Mi- A,

A lot of things go to make a good job. Interesting work,
vacations, the people you work with. But the big con
sideration is money. Take-home pay — savings — provision
for the future. Those are the things that count.
Compare the average job with a job in the Army.
Suppose you make $200 a month, when you’re working.
After all the deductions have been taken out — and after
paying for rent, groceries, clothes and doctors’ bills — how
much have you left?
Army pay starts at $50 a month for a Private. But a
big proportion of men in the new peacetime Army are
specialists, with higher grades and pay. Suppose you're
a Technical Sergeant, making $114 a month base pay. You
your food, clothing, housing and medical and dental
care free. Insurance, amusements and incidentals cost you
far less. And if you enlist before July 1, 1946, you get a
family allowance for your dependents. You’ll have money
to save!
With a yfcarly 30-day furlough with pay, you work
eleven months and get paid for twelve. You get the best
technical training in valuable trades and skills. Chances
for advancement arc excellent. On a 3-ycar enlistment you
can choose your branch of service and overseas theater —
and overseas service pays you 20 % extra! If you enlist
before October 6, 1946, upon discharge, you'll have the
privileges of the Cl Bill of Rights.
The educational privileges alone after a 3-year enlistment
arc worth more than $5000 (48 months of college, trade or
business school — free!). Where else could a young man
save that much in
