rents, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Warren
Slade, were honored by Mrs. Rich
ard Moss Mitchell at open house
Tuesday afternoon at the Mitchell
residence on Cherokee road.
Guests were received by Mrs.
Mitchell, Sgt. and Mrs. Johnson, and
Mr. and Mrs. Slade.
Mrs. Johnson, the former Miss
Sara Slade, was attired in a light
blue siut worn with brown acces
sories, a flower-trimmed hat, and a
corsage of valley lilies. Mrs. Mitch
ell wore a black sequin-trimmed
dress with a corsage of camellias,
and Mrs. Slade chose a black en
semble and a corsage of white car
nations and narcissi.
The tea table was overlaid with a
white lace cloth and featured atone
end a punch bowl embedded in white
lady and Laurens Koster narcissi,
white stock, and plumosa ferns
flanked by four burning white ta-
pers. Further down the table thej
same flowers were repeated In a low |
silver compote arrangement. The
green and whites motif was carried
out throughout the dining room,
and arrangments of gladioli and ca
mellias decorated adjoining rooms.
Mrs. A. H. Frye and Mrs. Otis
Blake served punch, and Mrs. O. N.
Mathis, Mrs Ben Brown, Jr., and
Mrs. Jack Gresham also assisted in
entertaining.
Friends called between the hours
oi 3 and 6 to meet Sgt. and Mrs.
Johnson.

Play Planned At
Hollonvttle Church
A play, “District School at Blue
berry Corner” will be presented by
an adult cast at the Hollonville
Methodist Church Friday night at
’ 8 o’clock. There will be an admis
sion charge of 20 cents and 40
cents. All proceeds will be used for
the benefit of the church.

Service of the First Methodist
Church spomored the Day Apart
service Wednesday from 11 until
1 o'clock.
The service was held In the junior
department of the church where the
worship center was draped In white

quests and was le by Mrs Goorga

soft music by Mas. Frank Ptttumn

father' was the theme of the first
quest. Mrs A. L. Patton read the
scripture, and Mrs. Murray present
ed two readings. Mrs. Ben Brown,
Jr., read the poem, “Working with
God,” and Mrs. Frank Patterson led
the group in prayer.
The second quest, “Forgive us our
sins,” opened with the responsive
reading led by Mrs. Herbert Bolton.
Mrs. Hoyt Henderson read the
scripture, and Mrs. Bolton gave a
reading.
Subject of the third quest was
“Thy kingdonTcome on earth.” Fol
lowing a reading by Miss Caroline
Eakes, George Watkins sang "The
Lord’s Prayer,” and Mrs. Andrew
Weldon led a prayer. Mrs. Weldon
then discussed the meaning of
