fifth and shut out the Indians the
rest of the way, giving up four hits.
The Indians got 10 hits off the
Grifin pitchers while the Pimientos
got seven. Tallassee made one er
ror to four for Griffin. Forrester
and Murphy accounted for four of
tne Griffin hits. Forrester had two
for five and Murphy two for four.
The other three hits are credited

The Griffin Pimientos h ave or
will secure three pitchers this week
that will be a shot cf vitamin juice
in the arm for the tired, overworked
nitching staff.
Bill Alexander, 190-pound-pitcher,
has been signed by the Pimientos
and made his first start
night against the Valley
Abe White, Griffin’s veteran man
ager, holds great hope for
young pitcher. He said Alexander
would help a lot this year and
would be a good pitcher next year,
LeRoy Wiggins has been secured
from the Valiev Rebels and will join
the team today, Torrence
moreland, secretary, said. Wiggins,
who has beat Griffin twice
vear, should prove great help to the
Pimientos.
He was released by the Rebels be
cause of additional players they re
cevied from New Orleans, a South
err. Association entry.
In addition to these two, White
expects a pitcher to arrive today
from Hattiesburg. Miss. White said
he had wired him to report
ted he had been told that several
major league teams were after him.
White also said he was expecting a
shortstop to come with the pitcher.
White said he was attempting to
secure players now to build a good
team for nex year. Both players
expected are big and young, Abe
said.

John Harrelson, better knwon as
"Lefty” by most fans, is one of the
main E ? rlT1 J s of the Pimiento pitch
lng SQuad. John, whose home is in
N. C. is finishing his second
year in professional baseball, having
played with Montgomery last year.
"Lefty,” as the name indicates, is
a southpaw pitcher and stands six
feet ' one and a half inches tall. The
21 -year-old hurler tips the scales at
165 P° un ds. ’
John says he has played ball since
he was knee high and loves the
game. He played American Legion
ba H for his home town in 1941 and
'42 with his team going to the state
finals both years »
The hurler served three years in
Army with eight months of it in
the Eighth Air I orce in England.
He was a radar mechanic.

pace holds up. figures from the
club’s front office show That's not
. bad for the first year in organized

, The Pimientos have played before
I an average of 1,485 fans here during
the month of July. Their -average
attendance until July 1 was sllght
ly over 1,100.
| Some 35,903 fans went through
the gates before July 1, which in
cludes the spring exhibition games.
Since July 1 to date, some 13,366
fans have seen the Pimientos in
action here. That’s a total 0 / 49,-
269 to date.
The July figure is in comparison
with 12.913 for 11 gamer, in June.
The July figure is for nine games,
In May, 14.281 turned out to see 14
garnes. The Pimientos have 20
home games left to reach 75,000,
a figure a lot higher class league
teams would be proud of.

fin 5-1 cashing in on four Griffin
errors in a Georgia-Alabama Lea
gue game Tuesday night. The In

in the fourth and the fifth run
was made off a homer by Edwards.
Forrester scored Griffin's run with
a homer.
A three-run homer by Blackburn
and a two-run triple by Chambers
gave the Valley Rebels a G-2 win
over the LaGrange Troupers. Black

Smashing out 12 hits, the Car
rollton Hornets beat the Alex
Millers 9-3. Chappell started on the
mound for the Millers but was re

Chappell was charged with tire
loss. Thomas paced the Hornets at
the plate with four for five, which

Newnan edged a 4-3 decision over
the league leading Opelika Owls.
The winning run was scored in the

but Opelika tied the score in the

pitcher, Krohn the winner.

Head said he hoped the team
