Owls Lose Second Straight To Kewnan 5-2

The Valley Rebels took both ends
of a doubleheader from the La
Grange Troupers to top Georgia
Alahama League play Wednesday
night.. The scores were 4-3 and 5-3.
Carlton Lewis singled in the wln

walked. Jones was advanced
third by Blackburn’s Blngle. Black
burn also smashed a triple In the
fifth to tie up the game.
In the second game the Rebs
scored three runs in the first inning
and added one in the second and
one in the third. LaGrango scored
three runs in the fifth. The only
extra base hits In. the second game
were made by Chambers and Elack
bum, both doubles.

VFW Closes Season
With 6-3 Victory
The VFW softball team closed the
regular season Wednesday after
noon with a 6 to 3 victory over
Brighton Mills in Forsyth.
This win gives VFW a season’s
record of 11 wins to one loss in the
Fourth District Softball League.
Their only loss was to Jackson 6
to 5.
Franklin Pitts, regular
man for VFW suffered a cut under
his eye in Wednesday’s game that
required three stitches. The acci
dent occurred when he was caught
off first base and attempted to
slide back.
McDermid pitched for VFW and
Stewart caught. Tonight VFW
meets Stockbrldge here at Light
foot Park at 8:30 and then plays in
Atlanta Friday and Saturday

Griffin is fifth in team hitting
with .272 just 14 points behind Ope

In fielding Griffin is sixth with
an average of .944. trailing Opelika

fin from Newnan, has won 3 and

The two Griffin baseball teams,
made up of boj’s under 14 years and
under 80 pounds, won their games
from similar teams ln Newnan
Wednesday by scores of 11 to 9 and
19 to 15.
The under 14 year team, called
the Pimiento Sprouts, won their
game by 11 to 9 scoring two runs
in the last inning to break a tie.
Allen and Dean Boatner pitched
and Boatner caught. Dean Boat- j
ner got a home run.
The Pimiento Sprouties, the un
der 80 pound team, scored nine runs
in the second inning to take the
game 19 to 15. Lefty” Pye pitched !
and R. Pye and Sheridan caught. !
Billy Pye got a home run. Chappell
Is credited with six stolen bases.
The two teams will play the New
nan teams here Wednesday at
Lightfoot Park at 2 o’clock. The
teams are sponsored by the Recrea
tion Department.

Tenn. entry of the Appalachian Lea
gue in 1945. He is listed as a na
tional defense service player on the
Pimiento squad and does not count
cn the league's roster rules.
Forrester stands five feet, eight
inches and carries 170 pounds on his
frame. Kis home is Lanet, Ala., the
home of the Valley Rebels. Franklin
is held in high esteem by his home
town people and gets a good hand
every time the Pimientos play there,
He is another unmarried member of
the Pimientos.
I Forrester is no slouch at the bat

the ball at a regular clip. He leads

The Griffin Pimientos took a two
run lead over the Tallassee Indians
there in the first inning and went
on to win 4 to 2 to even the series
at one-one Wednesday night.
Prank Childs went the route on
the mound for the Pimientos and
vrvp up ten hits, two mere than his
teammates got off two Tallassee
hurlers.
After being behind two runs, the
Indians put together enough hits in
the sixth inning to tie the score,
hut. the Pimientos, not to be denied,

Indians the rest cf the way.
