more than once, 1$ might oe pos
sible for two neighboring countries
—one capitalistic and the other
communistic — to live in peace.
However—and let’s not forget this
i—there is no possibility whatever
for communism to exist side by side
with another ism within the boun
daries ot the same country. The
most dangerous fallacy of our time
is the belief by some that commun
ism can be combined with anything
else.
You will note, by the way, that
neither Generalissimo Stalin nor
Mr. Molotov claimed communism
and an alien ism could live togeth
er in the same nation. So we should
not allow ourselves to be tripped
recognize the subtle distinction and
over it.
PLAYFUL PUDDLES
B Em Or^. /-(INS)— Alkaline
lakes, shallow and narrow but often
a mile or more in length, literally
wander the llat wastelands of south
Central Oregon during the season of
electric storms. The glorified mud
puddles are built up - in a few hours
and may last the same length of
time as strong winds whip them out
of their basins Into new locations,
These playful puddles, called “pla
ya” lakes, account for a lot of the
“mirages" seen by the weary mo
torist.

That’s, not to try to belittle Mr.

The announee
! ment about the atomic bomb was
i the high-point of his pronouce-
1 ment. He made it calmly and with
! studied language, such as would be
I ! fit a revelation about the most
momentous development of our age.
It was a clever move.
Of course Molotov is right. The
! broad information about the struc
ture of the bomb long ago ceased to
bo a secret, the experts tell us. The
information is available to Russia,
or even to you and me. However,
it’s equally true that there ere a
thousand and one technical details
Which still are secret, and without
them the bomb couldn’t be made.
There’s no great secret about,
making an ordinary automobile.
But let the average citizen try to
budd one, starting with the mak
ing of the steel and other metals
| employed. tomobile wouldn't His blue-print be worth of an au

of beans to him. See what I mean?
Another interesting point in Mr.
j Molotov’s address was his reitera
tlon of what recently has become
a red theine-song-thnt, captalism
and communism can exist side by
side in peace. This is a complete
n’:out-face for the bolshevist tenet
that there was no place in the
world for capitalism and It must be
j destroyed.
I The Soviet foreign minister,
! while declaring that capitalism is
i "on its last legs," recalled Prime
Minister Stalin’s interview last May
with Harold F. Stassen, candidate
fer the Republican presidential
nomination In ttje U.S.A. Molotov
had pointed out that S*alin said
the difference between economic
systems was not an obstacle to
peace.
"If collaboration was possilbe in
wartime , why not, ip peac e ttme l) "
asked Molotov.
A similar note was sounded a few
da vs ago by the Moscow periodica l
“New Times,' an authoritative
publication.
At first blush It looks ns though
Moscow might feel that It has Just
