When Winder scored a safety on
a punt on Griffin High, lots qf fans
were confused Since I originated

^ while President of the Hoople All
American Conference, I have been
asked to explain the various ways
of scoring in football.
Karruuumph! First of all a sin
gle point is made when a game is
forfeited and the team to which
the game is forfeited wins 1 to 0.
Egad! Quite simple. Another sin
gie point is allowed if the point af
ter touchdown is made. This, of
course, is an amazing revelation and
is not generally known by 1 fottball
fans. But, believe me gentle read
ers, it is quite true.
The next way that a team can
score is to kick a field goal and
for this a team receives three
points. A field goal, of course, is
when a team kicks the ball be
tween the opponents’ goal post just
as is done with a point after a
touchdown, except that a touch
down hasn’t been made:
4lhe final, and the best, way a
team can score is to make a touch
down which counts six points. So
you see, any combination score call
be made. Points are made which
give a team 1, 2. 3 or 6 points. These
can be added together to make al- j
most anything.
Well do I remember how, when
I was Coach at P. U., we defeated
our bitter rival, Oskaloosa Pollytech
40 to 0 by scoring 20 safeties. It
was in the days when Big Red—

In the Winder game, as in most

subs came in, and according to the
way those subs have shown up in
games this year the Gold Wave
will be plenty strong next year.

If four of them aren’t present
