Second argument for keeping
j white shoes clean is that regular
cleaning actually prolongs the life
of the leather. Usually a single
application of cleaner is all that is
needed to whisk off a film of dust
that only soils the whiting on the
surface of leather,
When shoes are permitted to be

dirt will be ground into the leather

To clean white leather properly,
stretch shoes over shoe trees. This

communism In any way anywhere.
Excommunication cuts a Catholic
off from the church entirely and
if, while still excommunicated, he
dies without true repentance, he
will suffer eternal damnation. That's
the Catholic belief.
This was the explanation of the
order as given here by a Catholic
theologian:
The help a Catholic henceforth
is forbidden to give communism,
under pain of excommunication,
covers a number of things:
Belonging to a communist party
anywhere in the world, helping
communism in any way, such as
voting for party members or con
tributing to party funds; or even
reading communist literature or
newspapers.
A Catholic who now defies the
order, as mentioned earlier, is auto
matically excommunicated And will
be damned forever if he dies
without true repentance.
That phrase — "If he dies with
out true repentance” — will have
the gravest importance for any
Catholic defying the order because
d] the f u t ure b e can avoid damn
a ti on and save himself in ofie of
two ways.
1. By confessing to a priest that
he is truly sorry.
2. Or, if he's dying and has no
time to see a priest, by saying, if
only to himself, that he is truly
sorry.
i The church teaches that God
knows a man's most secret thought?
and so knows whether a dying man
is truly sorry for what he's done.
Penney Stores
Subject In
Magazine
The J. C. Penney Company Is
saluted by the August issue of
Coronet magazine in an article
titled. "Those Amazing Penney
Stores."
The article, which was written
by Lawrence Galton, describes the
company which in 47 years grew
from a single, tiny store to a na
tion-wide chain of more than 1,-
600 by being friendly and helpful
and giving good mfrehandise val
ues.
The Penney store here is located
at 119 East Solomon, and Is man
aged by J. D. Milling.
Penney’s caters to the' average
American family, declares Coro
net. "What Penney’s has accom
plished is to combine all the ad
vantages of modern mass-mer
chandising with tre old home-town i
store idea, sacrificing none of the
latter’s friendly helpfulness to
wards customers."
Much of the credit for Penney’s |
spirit and success goes lo James
73 :
Cash Penney, who was born
years ago and now is honorary
board chairman of the company
he founded.
Coronet concludes its tribute to
the Penney stores with these words
of J. C. Penney: "Today’s greatest
challenge is human relations. You
won’t find a finer example of good
human-relations than between our
people and our customers. The
answer lies in the spirit within our
company, built up because every
body has an opportunity to get a
head and participate In profits ”
(So, if there's true repentance in
a dying man's mind, God would
let him enter Heaven even though
no one on earth ever knew the
man was repentant before his
death.)
But the church holds that so be
truly sorry means just that" True
repentance.
Suppose a man told a priest ne
was truly sorry blit wasn’t and only
said he was because he wanted the
priest to forgive him so he could
enter Heaven.
The theologian’s explanation con
tinues:
The priest, accepting that man's
word as his true feeling, might for
give him. But God, reading his in
nermost thoughts, would know
better.
That man, in spite of the priest's
expressed forgiveness, would not be
