■ ■ ■ A BIG REASON WHY THEY’RE LIKED BEST!
Smooth ride is one big reason why Chevy is America's most popular pickup.
You get true independent front suspension; front wheels that step lightly
over bumps. And most models provide big coil springs at all four wheels
to soak up the jolts. You get a ride that's ideal for
camper duty as well as work ■ ■ ■ a tough suspension CHEVROLET r

Crumley Gets
99 Years; Plans
New Trial Plea
SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. (UPI)
—Attorneys for David Clinton
Crumley, convicted of first de
gree murder in circuit court
and sentenced to 99 years in
prison, indicated Thursday they
would seek a new trial.
The same all-male jury which
Tuesday found the youth men
tally competent to stand trial
returned the verdict before
noon Thursday, after deliberat
ing slightly over an hour.
The state was seeking the
death penalty for the 21-year
old South Carolina ex-convict.
He was charged in the fatal
shooting of John A. Nelson, 50,
a Knoxville salesman whose
body was found in a cornfield
last September.
Court - appointed attorneys
R. B. Hailey, John Waters and
Dennis Jarvis, sought to prove
the youth insane at the time of
the murder.
The youthful defendant took
the stand twice, once while the
jury was out of the room, and
repudiated earlier confessions
to the crime.
He blamed the shooting on
his accomplice Harold Hender
son of Pelzer, S.C.,, whom he
later allegedly killed in Newton
County, Ga.

BEAUTY TIPS
Remove False Eyelashes Before a Swim
Fortunate persons who take winter vacations find a plunge
in the hotel swimming pool or the ocean a significant part
of their vacation in the sun. If you use mascara, even water
resistant, blot your eyes when emerging from water but
don’t rub. This helps avoid smears. Don’t swim with your
false eyelashes on.
Soaking Softens Rough Spots on Skin
. A good soaking once a week in addition to daily bathing
will help soften any rough spots or toughened skin. Use
plenty of sudsy water and dean thoroughly between the toes.
If this area tends to crack or be sensitive, use special anti
bacterial sprays to avoid infection. Scrub the bottoms OI of
the feet with a brush to remove dry skin and work away
possible calloused areas.
Massage Gums After Meals
Massage gums and keep them free of clinging food parti
cles after each meal. This cuts down on possible tooth decay
and offensive breath. Effective are pliable strips of tropical
wood (Stimudents) that help to remove wedged-in particles
and keep the mouth fresh.

Q — Is it safe to have hair re
moved from the face by electro
lysis? 'What other methods are
recommended?
A — Unwanted hair on the
chin is seen in many women a-f.
ter the menopause. These are
usually inconspicuous but some
women are overly self-conscious
about them. The removal of
these hairs with an electric
needle is safe in the hands of a
qu f lified operator. This is the
only method that gets rid of the
hair permanently but it is a
tricky business because too lit
tle current will not kill the roots
and the hair will grow again. On
the other hand, too much cur
rent will cause scarring. This
method requires several sit
tings and is not practical if the
hair Is to be removed from
large area. This is also the most
expensive method.
Hair protruding from a mole
should be removed only by cut
ting with scissors.
Other methods of removal in
clude shaving, applying warm
wax and removing it when it has
cooled and hardened, chemical
depil atories and abrasion with
wet pumice. None of these me-»
thods will increase the coarse
ness of the hair or its rate of
growth in spite of rumors to the
contrary. Good results have al
so been obtained with short-wave
diathermy.
Q— My husband has emphyse
ma and I have chronic bronchi
tis. We have been using a hum
idifier in our bedroom but, sin
ce a dry climate is considered
helpful in these conditions, I
wonder whether the humidifier
might be aggravating our pro
blems.
A — The humidifier should help
both of you. Although a dry cli
mate may be helpful, the indoor
air in a heated house is much
too dry even for such respira
tory diseases as you have. Even
with the humidifier, it is hard to
get the humidity in a heated
room up to the recommended
level for comfortable breathing.

DOCTOR SAYS

Q — I have what my doctor
calls a trigger finger. What cau
ses it and what is the remedy,
if any?
A — Snapping finger or trig
ger finger is caused by a thick
ening of one of the tendons of
the affected finger or by a nar
rowing of the sheath in which
the tendon slides. Closing the fist
causes a snapping sound. The
only treatment is an operation to
increase the size of the tendon
sheath, but this is not advised
unless the condition is a source
of great annoyance.
