DEAR POLLY — I asked a
group of friends who wanted to
give a shower before I was mar
ried to have a recipe shower.
Each guest brought a favorite
recipe and a spice to go in it or
some other small thing that
would be needed. I got a comp

of good and different ideas with
out much cost to anyone. -JO

DEAR POLLY — My letter is
for Penny. Change cheap to cle

you have the answer to your di

know how often it is the little th

smooth. Create shower gifts that
fit a predetermined budget.
Can you imagine cleaning hou
se without a supply of rags? Is
there an appliance that sews on
a button or mends a seam? How
about making a thread collec

sortment of needles, pins, hooks
and eyes and buttons? Condi
ments are required for all cook
ing and individually wrapped
they make most welcome gifts.
Every marriage needs an extra

DEAR POLLY — In answer
to Penny’s complaint about the
excessive number of showers of
ten given for one bride, I want
to pass on our nice solution I
live in a small town where prac
tically everyone knows everyone
else so we have one large show
er which is in the form of a tea.
It is usually in the evening and
people come and go as they
please.
Refreshments are served and
the bride opens and displays her
gifts but there are none of those
senseless shower games that
grown women are so often sub
jected to playing. We have been
doing this about four years and
everyone seems pleased with the
idea. Having it in the evening
makes it easier for young mo
thers as their husbands can be
baby sisters. Shower are for the
purpose of “showering” the br
ide with gifts and this is easier
for everyone. — CAROLYN
