The newspaper, which sup ported SNCC in civil rights, said most Atlanta Negroes also dis agree with 6NCC on this issue. “We oppose SNCC’s state ment,” the Inquirer said. Newspaperman Lumpkin Dead i ATHENS, Ga. (UPD-Bryan Carr Lumpkin, 66, former man aging editor of The Athens Ban ner-Herald, died Thursday. Fu neral services were scheduled Saturday (3 p.m.), Lumpkin, who Joined the newspaper in 1924, retired last summer because of ill health. He was a University of Geor gia graduate.
