Turner Will Guard White
The word has been out for
sometime in Regie- 4-AAA that
tl : * im tha' stry- Herbie White
stops Decatur.
Stopping one player sounds
simple.
But it isn’t when the player is
White, who is perhaps the finest
basketball player in the State of
Georgia.
The amazing Mr. White, who
stands 6-1 but has no trouble
stuffing a basketball through a
net hanging 10 feet from the
floor, is the key to Decatur’s
high-powered offense.
Right now White is probably
thj r tost sought-after player in
Georgia. His leaping ability
makes his a fine college pros
pect.
White isn’t the only fine play
er on the talented Decatur team.
However, most nights he is the
key to Decatur’s attack.
Coach Chris Jones, who is
grooming his Eagles for their big
battle with Decatur Friday night,
said today that Griffin will go
all out to stop White and the
Bulldogs.

Richard Turner, a junior and
a fine leaper hir-self will be as
signed the job of guarding White.
Coach Jones has complete con
fidence in Turner.
“Although White is two of
three inches taller than Richard,
I believe Richard can do the
job.
"It will be a big challenge for
him and I believe he will meet
it,” Coach Jones said.

Spring Practice
To Start Feb. 28
Griffin High’s spring football
practice will start Feb. 28 and
end March 25 with the annual
intra-squad game.
The dates, which are tentative,
were announced today by Coach
Ormand Anderson.
The dates are tentative becau
se of basketball.
Just how far the Eagles go in
basketball tournaments will de
termine whether Griffin begins
football practice on Feb, 21 or
Feb. 28.
Coach Anderson said Feb. 28
more than likely will be the
starting date.
Under Georgia High School ru
les, the Eagles are allowed 28
straight days of spring practice.
“We have played 42 games
and only two of those have been
bad.
“We played bad against R.E.
Lee in Griffin and still won.
"Our second bad game was
against Newton County. You
can’t play bad against a team
like that and expect to win.
“Playing about 20 good games
and only a couple of bad ones is
too serious.
“If w e play against Decatur
like we did in the Flint River
Tournament, I think we can
win,” the Griffin coach said.
more, forward.
Turner held York, whom Coa
ch Jones considers the finest
sophomore in Georgia, to eight
points.
Coach Jones said the Eagles
are "fired up for Decatur.”
“They’re ready to make
amends for the Newton loss and
prove themselves again.
“I believe we can beat Deca
tur. On any given nights, when
we play good, we can beat any
body.
