SOBERING STATISTICS—How long an alcoholic glow
the atays around depends as much on the type of drink as
number. The keys, according to a medical report in
an Air Force publication, Air Weather Service Observer,
tioning are type and amount of liquor in a drink and the func
of the liver, the organ that removes alcohol from
the bloodstream. The liver, going about its business at
a steady, unvarying rate, can dispose of about one-third
ounce of alcohol per hour, the equivalent of three
fourths ounce of ordinary blended whisky. It takes much
longer for it to work off effects of a few stiff drinks of
high alcohol content than of low-content beer.
