Miscue s, Nine Walks
Willingham To Victory
By ROGER DIX
Its been a long time since a
High baseball team gave
nine walks and committed
errors in the same game.
The Eagles did It Monday and
led to their elimination from
Lem Clark Invitational at
Williams Park in Macon.
The Willingham Rams, one of
strongest teams in toe Ma
area, took advantage of ev
Griffin miscue and turned
into an 11-6 victory.
The old saying that walks and
will kill a team was ne
truer.
Six of the Willingham players,
received free tickets to first,
scored. Two more
after errors gave them
life. And two more Griffin

two more runs.

Title Fight
Is Tonight
In Toronto
By FRED DOWN
UPI Sports Writer
TORONTO (UPI) -Will it be
a fight or fiasco?
The key clue may be
provided around noon today
when Cassius Clay, a champion
regarded with contempt by
millions of his own countrymen,
and George Chuvalo, a journey
man boxer who has earned a
measure of respect in his
country, weigh in for tonight’s
championship bout at toe Maple
Leaf Gardens.
The bizarre history of toe
bout suggests that boxing is
about to suffer another black
eye. But toe anticipation that
leads men to pay $50 to $100 for
a ticket is building up because
there always Is a reasonable
doubt when two strongmen
stand face to face in the ring.
The controversial issues that
caused the bout to be barred in
New York, Chicago, Montreal
and Verdun will be stripped
away at 10:30 p.m. EST wheB
13,000 persona In toe Maple
Leaf Gardens and perhaps
150,000 In closed-circuit televi
sion theatre outlets in toe
United States gather to see
what happens in naked pres
sure-filled combat.
The odds are at least 7-1 that
toe fast-moving, fast-hitting 24
year-old Clay will slash the 28
year-old native of Toronto to
ribbons and retain the hea
vyweight title with a technical
kayo or a knockout. Few
experts are betting on Chuvalo
but there is surprising support
that he will go toe scheduled
15-round distance.
The big question at today’s
weigh-in at the gardens are
Clay’s physical structure and
mental attitude. The champion
is expected to weigh the
heaviest of his career —
between 212 and 216 —a
poundage that will raise toe
question whether he will retain
the foot and hand speed that
are his greatest attributes.
Clay’s mental approach to
the bout Is also open to
question because of his erratic
behavior in toe face of
criticism that has been heaped
upon him for “unpatriotic”
statements about U.8. war
policy in Viet Nam.
A stolid plodder with an Iron
Jaw, Chuvalo seems to have
gained confidence because of
the adverse publicity surround
ing the bout. He’s a cinch to
weigh in at 208 to 210 pounds
and is expected to carry the
fight to Clay with a mauling,
aggressive style that may
include the toughest kind of
back alley fighting Cassius has
encountered during his career.
He is a hard right hand
puncher to the body and has a
fair left hook to the head.
Each fighter has predicted he
will win by a knockout —Clay
claiming “it could be over
quick if he gets dirty” and
Chuvalo saying “I’ve got a
round in mind to end it.”
Hokum is a part of any
heavyweight title fight, but
most experts will be surprised
if It goes the distance.

Start Work
Hitters Strike
By JOE GERGEN
DPI Sports Writer
Now that Sandy Koufax and
Don Drysdale finally have
reported for work, toe Los
Angeles Dodgers’ hitters have
gone out on strike.
The result is a double
disaster for toe reeling world
champions because Koufax and
Drysdale, those paragons of
pitching perfection, began their
working day in Hollywood, 3,000
odd miles from toe Dodgers’
Vero Beach, Fla., headquar
ters.
And no sooner had the two
hurlers, who are seeking a
combined three-year pact of $1
million, begun rehearsals at
Paramount Studios for their
forthcoming movie, “Warning
Shot,” when the rest of the
Dodgers struck in sympathy.
They didn't exactly walk out
and picket but they did the next
best thing. They laid down their
