East Griffin
Groups Hold
April Meets
The WMD organizations of
East Griffin Baptist Church held
their monthly meeting at the
church.
Report for the brotherhood
was given by the president, Gor
don Reynolds.
A slide movie was shown for
the purpose of a brotherhood or
ganization. Five members were
present for the meeting.
Report for the YWA’s was gi
ven by Mrs. Ruth Wheeler YWA
counselor.
Plans were made to visit a
shut-in and have a devotional.
Six members were present.
Report for the Junior GA’s was
given by the GA counselor, Mrs.
Beatrice Pitts.
New officers were elected to
serve for the next six months.
Twelve members were present.
The WMS held their monthly
meeting with Mrs. R. P. Street,
Jr. presenting the program,
“New Foreign Mission Fields”.
Mrs. Orilla Baker gave the de
votional and led In prayer. Plans
were made to hold cottage pra
yer services April 22 preceding
the revival beginning the first
Sunday In May.
The group voted to meet May
4 at 7 p.m. before the revival.
Miss Joyce Howard closed
with prayer. Eight members
were present. Mrs. June Bla
lock was welcomed as a new
member.

The marriage of Miss Sandra
Runette Sauls and Mr. Alton
Wesley Waller was solemnized
Saturday, April 9 at 7 p.m. at
the home of the bride. The Rev.
Cecil Dix, cousin of the bride,
performed the ceremony.
The bride is the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. V. A. Sauls of Gr
iffin and the groom Is the son
of Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Waller of
Thomaston.
The candlelight ceremony was
performed before a background
of greenery and dogwood blooms.
Two seven branch candelabra
entwined with ivy with double
wedding bells attached were us
ed also. A large arrangement
with white glads was used on
the table.
Mr. J. M. Waller, father of the
groom, was best man.
Mrs. George Saunders, cousin
of the bride, was matron of ho
nor. She wore a street length
pink linen dress with Jacket. Her
accessories were black patent
and she wore a corsage of white
carnations.
The bride, given in marriage
by her father, w o r e a street
length white satin wedding
gown of lace over satin. The
dress featured a full skirt and
long lace sleeves. Her veil of
Illusion was attached to a seed
pearl crown. She carried a
white Bible topped with white
carnations, white orchid and
ribbon streamers tied In love
knots.
Mrs. Sauls, mother of the br
ide wore a three piece pink lin
en dress with black patent ac
cessories. Her corsage was white
carnations.
Mrs. H. A. Davis, maternal
grandmother of the bride, wore
a beige linen suit with black ac
cessories. Her corsage was whi
te carnations.
Mrs. Waller, mother of the
groom, wore an aqua lace and
crepe dress with aqua accessor
ies and a corsage of white car
nations.
Mrs. Bertha Waller, paternal
grandmother of the groom, wore
a black and white silk dress with
a white carnation corsage.
A reception was held follow
ing the wedding.
The bride’s table was covered
with white linen and pink. The
corners were caught up with
wedding bells. A four branch
candelabra and a pink arrange
ment were used in the center.
Hie three tiered wedding cake
was placed on the table.
Serving at the reception were
Miss Martha Rivers, Mrs. Mer
le Hammock of Thomaston,
Mrs. Jack Crawford and Mrs.
L. J. Stemberger.
The bride’s book was kept by
Dixie Waller of Thomaston, sis
ter of the groom. The book was
placed on a table covered with
a white linen cloth overlaid with
pink net. A candleholder with
white tapers were used on the
table.
For her wedding trip the bride
chose a powder blue three pie
ce linen suit with black patent
accessories. She wore the orchid
lifted from her bouquet.
Mr. and Mrs. Waller are re
siding at 612 West College street.
Prior to the wedding parties
were held as follows:
Mrs. Claudette Neely, Mrs.
Merle Hammock and Mrs. Ruth
Stallings entertained with a par
ty in Thomaston. Approximately
35 attended.
Mrs. Allen Taylor and Mrs.
George Saunders entertained In
Griffin March 17. Approximately
25 guests were present.

Practical Nurses met at the
home of Mrs. Lois Jackson for
the April meeting.
Mrs. Evelyn Blackwell, presi
dent, presided.
Mrs. Thelma Moore gave the

ing a work shop and state board
meeting to be held in Atlanta
May 11-12.

Kate McLaurin gave a talk on
Medicare.

devotional.

The dinner was held at the
home of her daughter, Mrs. Ja
mes M. Terrell on Lee street.
The honoree received many
useful gifts.
A birthday cake with yellow
roses and candles centered the
table.
A buffet style dinner was ser

dent, presided. Following the pl
edge to the flag, Mrs. Rochelle
Irvin gave the devotional. The
group sang “What A Friend”.
Mrs. Martha Jimerson gave
the secretary’s report. The roll
call and treasurer’s report were
given by Mrs. Marie Feltman.
Miss Janice Farmer gave a
demonstration on floor covering.

The First Methodist Church in
O’Donnell, Tex. was the scene
Saturday, April 9, for the mar
riage of Miss Marijean Clayton
of Abilene, Tex., to Mr. Donald
Linwood Chambers of Abilene,
Tex. The Rev. Robert W. Brown
performed the double ring cere
mony at 7:30 p.m.
The bride is the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. S. M. Clayton, Jr.
of O’Donnell, Tex. The groom Is
the son of Mr. and Mrs. Luther
Chambers of Griffin.
Mrs. Carr Sprayberry, organ-
1st, and Miss Jimmie Gay Gar
dinhire, soloist, presented a pro
gram of nuptial music including
the songs “Always” and “Only
You”.
Mr. L. L. Chambers, father of
the groom, served as best man.
Ushers were Mr. Wayne Alan
Clayton of O’Donnell, Tex., cou
sin of the bride, and Mr. Clar
ence Losey of Abilene, Tex.
Matron of honor was Mrs. L.
K. Clark of Canyon, Tex., sister
of the bride. Miss Sandy Gar
rett of O’Donnell, Tex., was brid
esmaids. Their dresses were of
blue peau de soie made identi
cal to the bride’s. The dresses
featured short sleeve jackets
and street length skirts. They
wore matching bows of blue and
circles of tulle. They carried a
single long stemmed carnation.
The bride, given in marriage
by her father, wore a softly plea
ted formal gown topped with an
all over lace jacket with petal
point sleeves, high neck and tiny
buttons and loops at the back,
Tiny seed pearls outlined the
jacket. The gown featured a de
tachable chapel train. Her veil
of illusion flowed from a satin
ring, reembroidered with lus
ter beads and seed pearls. Her
bouquet was cymbidium orch
ids atop her white Bible.

Mr. Mabry Talks
To Club
Robert Mabry presented a pro
gram on the technique of fram
ing at the April meeting of the
Dogwood Garden Club. He
showed samples of framing mat
erials and the finished product.
The meeting was held at the
home of Mrs. Billy Thomas on
Pine Ridge road.
A large basket of Easter eggs
tied with a big pink bow was us
ed at the entrance. An Easter
theme was carried out in the de
corations.
After the business meeting,
refreshments were served to the

parts of Texas, Mr. and Mrs.
Chambers will reside in Abilene,
Tex. For her wedding trip the
bride chose an aqua blue linen
lace ensemble with white acces
sories and an orchid from her
bouquet.
