Dies In Florida
Mrs. Frances Wood Harris,
95, of St. Petersburg, Fla., for
merly of Griffin, died in St. Pe
tersburg.
She is the widow of Mr. Wal
ter Joseph Harris. Mrs. Harris’
body is being sent to Griffin for
burial in Oak Hill cemetery and
is scheduled to arrive here Wed
nesday morning. Plans will be
announced on arrival of relativ
es.
Mrs. Harris is survived by one
son, Walter Allen Harris and a
daughter, Miss Esther Harris of
St. Petersburg, Fla.

Powell officiating. Burial will
be in the Senoia cemetery. Mrs.
Horton’s body is at Haisten Fun
eral Home in Griffin and will lie
in state at the church for one
hour before the funeral.
Mr. Nelms Dies
At VA Hospital
Mr. Ralph Nelms of Brooks
died Sunday morning at the Vet
erans Hospital In Dublin after
an illness of several months.
Mr. Nelms was a retired em
ploye of Rushton Mills. He was
a veteran of World War Two and
was a member of the American
Legion. Mr. Nelms was a mem
ber of the White Water Baptist
Church at Brooks.
Mr. Nelms is survived by his
widow, Mrs. Nannie Mae Pad
gett Nelms; three daughters,
Mrs. Charles Gallman of Union
City, Mrs. Earl Ferguson of Do
ravllle, Miss Helen Kay Nelms
of Brooks; two brothers, Horace
H. Nelms of Fayetteville, Cecil
J. Nelms of East Point; three
sisters, Mrs. Felix Turner of
Griffin, Mrs. Thomas Hender
son of Hampton and Mrs. Willie
Dunn of Brooks. Several nieces
and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be con
ducted Tuesday afternoon at 2
o’clock from Haisten's chapel.
Rev. Winston Harmon and
the Rev. Dallas Morris will of
ficiate. Burial will in Brooks
Gardens.

Mrs. Nellie Viola Kent Thomas
died this morning at her resi
dence, 710 Sherwood drive.
She was bom in Alabama, but
had lived in Griffin for five ye
ars, She was a member of the
Mt. Gilead Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband,
James W. Thomas; four sisters,
Mrs. Dora Moore of Rome, Mrs.
Fred Hulsey of Cedartown, Mrs.
Senora Christians of Llndale,
Ga., Mrs. Maggie Sealark of At
lanta; two brothers, DeRoy Kent
of Llndale and A. J. Kent of
Pontiac, Mich.
Funeral arrangements will be
announced by McDonald Chapel.
Mrs. Brown
Dies Today
Mrs. Dovie Ann Brown, 64, of
1214 Seago drive, died this mor
ning at the Georgia Baptist Hos
pital in Atlanta. She was the wi
dow of Mr. George W. Brown.
She is survived by a daughter,
Mrs. Ruby Godwin of Griffin;
stepson, Roy L. Brown of Flo
rida; three grandsons, George
L. Brown of California, Paul E.
Godwin and George David God
win, both of Griffin; and several
nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be an
nounced by McDonald Chapel.
PIGEON THIEF
DURHAM, Englac<i (UPI) —
Pigeon fanciers are mounting
night patrols to guard their
birds against a thief called
“The Phantom Judge.”
Since the spring breeding
season began, he has stolen 34
pigeons and six valuable eggs
worth $700. The thief can Judge
birds so well, he has Ignored all
but race winners or those from
winning strains.

Sunday Wrecks
Injure One
James C- Elliott of Lithia Spr
ings, Ga., was injured in an au
tomobile accident Sunday 10.2
miles south of Barnesville on
U. S. 341.
He suffered cuts on his head
and ear in the mishap. He was
treated at the Monroe County
Hospital in Forsyth.
Elliott was listed as the dri
ver of the only car involved.
Investigating troopers estima
ted damage to the car he was
driving at $1,400.
Jack Ison Jones of 323 North
Ninth street, Griffin, and Nan
cy Louise Howell of 904 East
College street, Griffin, were lis
ted as drivers of cars involved
in an accident on the Orchard
Hill road in Lamar County.
Troopers estimated damage to
the two cars at $75.
Mr. McCullough
Of Brooks Dies
Mr. George H. McCullough,
90, of Brooks, Ga., died Satur
day morning at his residence.
He was bom in Coweta County,
but bad lived in Brooks for the
past 35 years. Mr. McCullough
was a retired farmer. He attend
ed the White Water Baptist
Church.
Survivors include three daugh
ters. Mrs. C. A. Kelley of
Brooks, Mrs, W. R. Cox, Mrs.
N. L. Cox, both of Griffin; four
sisters, Mrs. J. W Byron of
Sharpesburg, Mrs. Pearl Mor
gan of Atlanta Mrs. J. H. Boggs
of Union City, Mrs. Lavonia Mc
Clain of Carrollton; one brother,
B. G. McCullough of Williamson;
nine grandchildren and 16 great
grandchilitren. Several nieces
and nephews also survive.
Funeral services for Mr. Mc
Cullough were conducted this af
ternoon at 3 o’clock from the
White Water Baptist Church with
the Rev. Winston Harmon and
the Rev. J. K. Kelley officiating.
Burial was in the church ceme
tery. McDonald Chapel was

Buried Today
Funeral services for Mr. Wil
liam Wesley Gibson of 114 West
Vineyard road were conducted
this afternoon at 2 o’clock from
the chapel of Pittman Rawls
Funeral Home. The Rev. Billy
Anderson and the Rev. Raymond
Chambers officiated and burial
was In Oak Hill cemetery.
Mr. Gibson was killed In a
head-on auto collision on the
North Expressway near Jon
esboro early Saturday morning.
Mr. Lynch
Dies Today
Mr. Raymond Berry Lynch,
60, of Route one, Zebulon, died
early this morning at the Grif
fin-Spalding Hospital where he
had been a patient for a week.
Mr. Lynch was a lifelong resi
dent of Pike County, son of the
late W. H. Lynch and the late
Mrs. Julia Cadenhead Lynch.
He was engaged In farming and
also assisted his brother, J. W.
Lynch, in the refrigeration busi
ness. Mr. Lynch was a member
of the Zebulon Baptist Church.
He is survived by his widow,
Mrs. Needy Pauline Gibson Lyn
ch; a son, Larry Lynch of Zebu
Ion; three brothers, J. W. Lyn
ch of Griffin, Roy Lynch and
Clinton Lynch of Zebulon; two
sisters, Mrs. Ouida Hard and
Mrs. Eleanor Stanford of Atlan
ta.
Funeral services will be con
ducted Tuesday morning at 11
o’clock in Haisten’s chapel. The
Rev. George Porter and the Rev.
Wiley Virden will officiate and
burial will be in the Lynch fa
mily cemetery in Pike county.

Dr. William H. McKinney, a
retired reserve Air Force chap
lain, will speak at the American
Legion Poet 15 and Auxiliary
meeting tonight at the
Post Home on Jackson road.
Chaplain McKinney served in
both World War One and World
War Two. He retired In 1965
with the rank of colonel. H 1 s
last tour of combat duty was on
Okinawa.
He is serving as ad-interim
pastor of the First Christian
Church of Griffin, where he will
continue until June.
Before coming to Griffin he
served for 17 years as National
Secretary for the Department
of Men’s Work for Christian
Churches in the United States
and Canada. He is a graduate of
Bethany College, West Virginia,
and Yale Divinity School.
He will speak on “Lessons
Learned From War Service.”
Griffinite Qualifies
For Job Corps
Corpsman Floyd D. Shirley,
son of Mrs. Mildred W. Hart of
Griffin, Ga. has completed the
training at the Cumberland Gap
Job Corps Conservation Center
in Middlesboro, Kentucky, whi
ch qualifies him for transfer to
Gary Job Corps Urban Center in
San Marcos, Texas.
Corpsman Shirley arrived at
the Center in Middlesboro on
November, 1965 and transferred
to Gary Job Corps on April 12.
Memory Course
To Start Tuesday
A memory course sponsored
by the Griffin Area Chamber of
Commerce will be held Tuesday
and Thursday nights at the
Chamber office on West Taylor
streets.
It will be held between 7 p.m.
and 10 p.m. and will be taught
by Don Stewart of Atlanta.
Forty-one people have signed
up and the class will be limited
to 50 students.
The registration fee is $15 for
one student or $25 tor a couple.
