Miss Rita Crane
Marries Mr. Pitts
Miss Rita Delores Crane and
Mr. Jerry Franklin Pitts were
united in marriage Sunday, Ap
r ’ 17 at 2:3D p.m. The Rev.
Wallace Z. Wiggins of Decatur
performed the double ring cere
mony at the First Methodist
Church in Griffin.
The bride Is the daughter of
M”. and Mrs. James Lewis Cr
an» of Griffin. Mr. Pitts is the
eon of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph
Franklin Pitts of Griffin.
The focal point In the church
was the arrangement of glads,
mums and snapdragons beneath
the lighted cross. On either side
was candelabra holding burn
ing white tapers against a back
ground of woodwardia fern.
Mr. Warren Halsten, organist,
and Mrs. Donald Keene, soloist,
presented a program of nuptial
music.
Mr. Pitts chose as his best
man Mr. Terry Chambers. Ush
ers were Mr. Tony Flournoy,
Mr. Terry Belvln, Mr. Otis Bel
Vin, Mr. Delano Belvln and Mr.
Mayson Crane, brother of bride.

They wore dresses of banana
yellow featuring a narrow waist,
scalloped neckline and) full
skirts. Their veils were attach
ed to a crown with seed pearls.
They carried bouquets of yellow
roses with green and yellow
streamers.
The bridesmaids were Mrs.
John Helton, sister of the groom,
Miss Connie Snell, Miss Gail
Wilson and Miss Margaret Cum
ming. They wore Identical dress
es to the maid of honor and
matron of honor.
The bride given In marriage
by her father, wore a bridal
gown of white dulcette satin.
The fitted bodice was fashioned
with a high scoop neckline and
had elbow length sleeves. Appli
ques of alencon lace encrusted
In tiny seed pearls were reem
broidered on the bodice and en
circled the waist line. The con
trolled skirt was enhanced with
side and back fullness that flow
ed Into a chapel train. The back
waist line was finished with a
flat tailored bow. Her veil of
tiered illusion was attached to a
crown of sequins and pearls. The
bride carried a crescent bouquet
of white bridal roses centered
with a white orchid entwined
with English Ivy and white sa
tin streamers.
Mrs. Crane, mother of t h e
bride, wore a sheath dress of
shell pink. Her accessories were
the same color and her corsage
was a purple throated orchid.
Mrs. Pitts, groom’s mother,
chose a golden beige brocade
with beige accessories. She wore
a purple throated orchid.
Following the wedding a recep
tion was held at the church.
Mrs. S. L. Farmer, aunt of the
bride, greeted the guests. Mrs.
James W. Head kept the bride’s
book.
The bride’s table was covered
with a white satin and net cloth,
centered with the four tiered
cake, which was topped with a
miniature bride and groom.
On either end of the table was
the punch bowl and lighted can
delabra with an arrangement of
yellow and white roses, carna
tions and fern.
Assisting In entertaining were
Mrs. John Chandler, Villa Rica,
Mrs. Champ Vance, Mrs. Pat
Bray and Mrs. Mayson Crane,
all of Griffin.
During the afternoon the cou
ple left for a short wedding trip.
For traveling the bride wore a
pale pink linen suit with an or
chid corsage.
Mr. Pitts is stationed at Port
Bragg, N. C. with Will the U. 6.
Army. Mrs. Pitts join him

Prior to the wedding the bride
was feted with several parties.
Miss Patsy Bray and Miss
Brenda Bray and their mother,
Mrs. Pat Bray, honored the br
ide with a lingerie luncheon at
the Holiday Inn. The guests
were seated at a table centered
with an arrangement of pink
and white carnations with Queen
Anne’s lace. A miniature bride
and groom topped the arrange
ment. Fifteen close friends were
present.
Mrs. Joe dimming and Miss
Margaret dimming gave a mis
cellaneous shower at their home
on Maple drive March 19.
Invited to honor Miss Crane
were 15 young ladies who were
her classmates at Griffin High.
Miss Connie Snell and Miss
Gail Wilson entertained at Miss
Snell’s home on Finley avenue
with a shower April 2.
Miss Gail Rissman and Mrs.
Robert Rissman entertained the
bride and bridesmaids at a lun
cheon April 16 at the Holiday
Inn. Centering the table was an
arrangement of pink carnations
with snapdragons and Queen
Anne’s lace. Tiny net bags of
rice with pink ribbons completed
the decorations.

the program at the monthly
meeting of the Pine Tree Gar

Auxiliary
Bill Ramsey, secretary-trea
surer of the Peace Officers’ An
nuity & Benefit Fund of the
State of Georgia, was the speak
er at the April meeting of the
Ladies Auxiliary of the Griffin
Police Department. He gave a
talk on the facts about the Pea
ce Officers’ Fund and answer
ed questions concerning the
fund.
Mrs. Florence Williams, pre
sident, welcomed the members
and guests. Mrs. Evelyn Black
well gave the invocation.

dent, presided. Mrs. Lewis Joi
ner, horticulture chairman, gave
a report on the care of camel
lias. Mrs. Gene Wilson, secre
tary, read the constitution of the
club. It was discussed and re
viewed by members.
The new slate of officers were
installed by Mrs. Kenneth Ford.
Plans were completed for the
May meeting which will be an
anniversary dinner for the club.

PORT CHICAGO, Calif.
(UPI) —Lawrence Connerly,
was accosted in front of his
home Tuesday by a man who
shoved a “toy gun” into his
back. Connerly whirled and
struck the man on the jaw,
knocking him out.
The man was Donald Eagler,
identified as a ‘‘dangerous”
escaped confict from the
Contra Costa County jail. The
“toy” was a pellet pistol which
officers said had the fire power
of a .22 caliber weapon.

Mrs. Russell Smith was install
ed as president of Spalding Jun-t
ior High School PTO at the Ap
ril meeting, Mrs. Smith succeeds
Mr. and Mrs. James Sawyer,
co-presidents for the 1965-66 sc
hool year.
Other officers elected and in
stalled were vice presidents, Mr.
and Mrs. James Sawyer; trea
surer, Mrs. Robert Beaty, and
secretary, Mrs. Howell Shack
leford. Mrs. Beuron Grogan in
stalled the officers.
Guest speaker for the meeting
was George Patrick, Jr., super
intendent of Griffin-Spalding Co
unty School System. Mr. Pat
rick’s topic was ‘‘What’s New
in our Schools.” Mr. Patrick told
of plans for the coming year In
the local system and discussed
the government’s guidelines for
southern states.
The program opened with the
devotional given by members of
Mrs. Ethridge’s and Mrs. Cald
well’s Tri-Hi-Y Clubs. Students
taking part on the program were
Janice Cobb, Cindy Cody, Joyce
Dorsey, Debra Grant, Bonnie
