Smith then shot his rifle at
the pair, killing one of them,

Smith said the second man

DUE FOR SINKS
WASHINGTON (UPI) —Hie
69 tenants of the gaudy new
Raybum House office building
are going to get sinks for their
kitchens, with hot and cold

About $50,000.
The three-room office suites
in the $89 million building came
equipped with two bathrooms
and a rudimentary kitchen
with refrigerator and connec

The plumbing for the sinks was

Police authorities in Orlando
spotted a truck of the same de

truck was driven, they said, by
Mash’s brother - in - law. No
identification was made of a fe

Orlando authorities also said
Mash had had a police record

Smith said he thought the two

Dean Insists On
Probe, Despite
Bolton's
ATLANTA (UPI)—State Sen.
Roscoe Dean of Jesup has
again called for a sweeping In
vestigation of the state High
way Department despite a
claim by Atty. Gen. Arthur Bol
ton that such an investigation
was made and turned out to be
a “wild goose chase.”
Bolton said Thursday he had
conducted an investigation into
the Jesup highway district as
demanded by Dean, who had
also called for the ouster of
E. A. Logan, district engineer
in Jesup. Bolton said he and
his staff conducted an investi
gation and it was “the biggest
wild goose chase I’ve ever been
on in my life.”
He said Logan’s reputation
was impeccable.
But Dean was far from sat
isfied and charged Bolton with
a “coverup and whitewash.”
He stuck by bis original
charges of irregularities in the
28-county district.
He said his charges were not
made against Logan personally
but against the district
"The charges have not been
answered,” Dean said. “I call
for a sweeping investigation of
the entire department by an
objective committee of taxpay
ers who pay for the roads in
the first place.”
Logan was removed from his
post by Highway Director Jim
Gillis but was reinstated after
Bolton’s investigation. Logan
charged he was removed for
political reasons and said Dean
was trying to use the depart
ment for patronage purposes.
