Hospital Week
Patient Care Is
Primary Concern
By JACK MOORE
Hospital Administrator
How many times have you
paused at au intersection to let
an ambulance go by uninterrup
ted to its destination? This is
your way of expressing concern
for the needs of others and
bears out the Christian concern
for your fellow man.
A modern hospital like the
Griffin- Spalding County Hospi
tal where care of the sick and
injured is its primary concern,
never sleeps. Its ever increas
ing activity Is a firm indication
of the important role it plays in
the community.
As an institution, its influence
extends to thousands of people
in every walk of life, frequently
reaching into the areas far re
mote from the community it ser
ves. Your hospital knows no
boundaries, for its influence is
wide and far reaching as need
itself.
The rapid development of me
dicine In recent years together
with the new techniques in re
lated fields had made your hos
pital Into a highly complex or
ganization. To carry out its func
tions with maximum efficiency,
each member of the hospital
team Is assigned an area of res
ponsibility with the care and
welfare of the patient as the sole
objective. A patient’s experience
may touch every aspect of hos
pital function.
To hospitalize a patient requir
es the efficient combining of
skills from every level of hospi
tal operation. Coordination and
team work begins the moment
the patient is admitted.

Benefits Up
For Workers
Social Security beneficiaries
who are working may now be en
titled to more benefits. Starting
in 1966, you can receive all
your benefits if your yearly ear
nings do not exceed $1,500. But,
no matter how much you earn
during the year, you can still be
paid your full benefit for any
month in which you do not earn
more than $125, or do not active
ly work in self-employment.
Q. I am receiving $103 month
ly from social security. I have
been keeping my earnings under
$1,500 yearly, but my employer
has asked me to work extra this
summer. If I do, my total earn
ings this year will be $1800. How
much social security would I
lose? M.P. Briffin
A. $150. You would lose $1 for
each $2 you earn above $1500,
Q. My son had been supporting
me when he was killed last
year. He was in the military ser
vice and all of the expenses for
his funeral were paid by the ser
vice. I am 55 years old. Can I
get any of his social security?
M.L. Zebulon.
A. If he was giving you one
half of your support at the time
of his death, you may be eligi
ble to parent's benefits on his
record when you are 62. Proof
of your dependency, however,
must be filed with the social se
curity office within two years
of the date of his death.
Q. I was turned down on my
claim for disability last year, I
had enough work credits, but
my disability wasn’t severe en
ough. I will be 62 in October. Can
I draw social security then? P.
K. Griffin
A. Yes. You may elect to re
ceive the reduced old-age bene
fits at age 62.
Q. I am 70 years old and
have always paid in the top
amount on social security. I do
not plan to retire for another
year. Should I go ahead and
check with the social security
office anyway? S. O. Griffin
A. Yes. Even though it appears
that your earnings are too high
tj permit payment of benefits to
you now, you should establish
the monthly amount. Then when
you do retire, all you will have
to do is let us know. Also, you
would be eligible for medicare

Thumbs Down
Annexation
ATLANTA (UPI) — Sandy
Springs residents have turned
thumbs down on joining Atlan
ta by a greater than two-to
one ratio. However, voters in
Adamsville have approved an
nexation to the big city.
A bitter, hard-fought cam
paign was climaxed Wednesday
when voters in both communi
ties went to the polls to take
action on separate referendums.
In Sandy Springs the final vote
was 4,970 against annexation
and 2,404 in favor.
Adamsville voters barely ap
proved annexation, 197-150.
Opponents to annexation in
Sandy Springs charged that At

Sandy Springs, if annexed,
could become another Kirk

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.
(UPI) —Phil Martinez, 41, was
ordered to serve a forgery
sentence in county jail here

penitentiary after a persuasive
argument by his lawyer.
Attorney Henry Coors told
the court Martinez was a trusty

"They can trust him with the

said.
