Chinese mothers bring up their children.
One factor in the rather admirable behavior of
Chinese youngsters is the gwwttmwa of mothers in
weaning and training their children. As reported
in Science News, Chinese parents do not tolerate
aggression in their children. The stability of Chi

control, seem to be significant factors in deterring

• Are psychiatrists all alike?
No, there are profound differences
between Russian and American
schools of thought. For example,
Russian psychiatrists tell their pa
tients how to act, and try to re-ed

By contrast, Soviet psychiatrists
believe that a doctor-patient rela
tionship is a curative force only
when it takes on a positive emotion
al character.
Consequently, they work to estab
lish friendship with patients, and of
fer definite emotional support and
approval. Their technique, according

which "can only have anti-therapeu

Another significant difference:
Russian psychiatrists am available
to patients at any time, and without
appointment. Therapeutic sessions
may last from a few minutes to
several house, and tend to be quite
informal. The therapist may be full
of enthusiasm and good-will. He
may present a no-nonsense, fatherly
figure, take the attitude that he and
his patient are equals, or he may
play a lofty, scientific rale.
According to the Science News
report, Russian doctors have more
official authority and community in
volvement than TT.S. physicians. A
Soviet psychiatrist may also be *.

he can order a factory to give a
